Any talk about accusers and defendants, any language that relates to a criminal trial by the GOP are irrelevant to impeachment.

(52,256 posts)yes it takes 2/3rds to convict; the question is, does each senator vote based on preponderance of evidence? proof beyond a reasonable doubt?
the reality is there is no particular standard, each senator simply has to decide for themselves how to vote.

(52,256 posts)language that relates to a criminal trial by the gop is *technically* irrelevant, but in practice it is very telling that they go straight to thinking they need to defend themselves in a criminal context and that they need to fully avail themselves of all the protections afforded to people facing criminal liability.

that's like, "dude, people are saying they heard you singing like the beegees."
"no way man! you weren't in the room last thursday at 1pm! where's bob, i'm gonna kill him! oh, your statement is inadmissible!"
