Try as Republicans will to distract the American public and label the impeachment inquiry a witch hunt, there is no escaping the hard truth that President Donald Trump solicited help from a foreign leader for his 2020 campaign, an act that U.S. law specifically forbids. Republican leaders in Congress find themselves, once again, scrambling furiously to concoct a believable defense for a man whose conduct is indefensible.
Trumps recklessness and divisiveness is exhausting the nations patience. How far will GOP leaders in Congress allow Trump to drag this country down before they stand in defense of the Constitution?
Make no mistake: Theres a troubling coincidence between former Vice President Joe Bidens intervention in 2014 to urge the ouster of Ukraines chief prosecutor and son Hunter Bidens appointment to the board of a gas company owned by a corrupt, Russia-friendly Ukrainian oligarch. Hunter Biden received upwards of $50,000 a month in that role, a shocking change of fortunes for someone who had just been dismissed from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine.
If Joe Biden was involved in illegality, let the Justice Department initiate an investigation and follow leads. But so far, five years after those developments, investigators seem not to have uncovered prosecutable violations.
Trump had no apparent authority to launch his independent corruption probe and bring in his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, to follow up with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Trump who has paid off a porn star, bragged about sexually abusing women and openly urged Russia to meddle in the 2016 presidential campaign ranks as the most corrupt U.S. president since Richard Nixon.

(129,097 posts)(as are most cities nationwide but then that is where the "major" newspapers are anyway).
But if you see papers like the Columbus Dispatch (which up until 2016 pretty much only endorsed GOP Presidential candidates but broke with that tradition to endorse Clinton) then THAT is when you know you are hitting that other vote.

(23,105 posts)Drumpf is the most corrupt and anti-American so called president - EVER. No one is even close, not even notorious Nixon. No one else has been so pro a foreign country and so anti-America and all its' allies. He truly hates Americann workers, minorities and any women not currently acting as his fluffer - so all of us.
He never had one single qualification for the position, not one. He tries to bluff his way through, and it does not work. The man has no "polish" to be in the same company of heads of state worldwide. Not intelligent, very unlikeable, crude, rude and self promoting. Having family members "working" in the WH, unqualified to obtain Security clearances is disgraceful. No democratic president would even consider doing that, even though their family members would likely be much smarter and educated than any tRump.

(19,863 posts)Nixon was a political thug... That child is a complete thug who feels his ego and his personal empire are far more important than anything political, constitutional, or legal. He is barely human, why are we still acting like he is just a political foe? The party that is enabling him know they are just like him, and would do the same things he is doing to placate ego and perceived power in our society, yet we are still trying to be 'proper' and 'reserved' in the face of the mounting reality of corruption. I don't mean ignore our rule of law, nor do I mean to circumvent the rules that are in place for removal of a sitting president who calls for insurrection rather than answer for what he is accused of. If he did nothing wrong he has nothing to worry about. His actions and the actions of those who are defending him (at ALL levels, not just the powerful/wealthy in our society) say they are not trying to follow the rule of law and procedure in this matter and therefore they DO have something to hide. Democrats... stop being nice. Stop being 'demure in the name of decorum and good form'. That shit got old when I was in my 20's. I am in my 50's now. The plodding procedures and practices that were in vogue in the freaking 1890s have no use here. Proper accountability and regard for societal integrity are what is needed, not cultural norms that have been more than corrupted by the wealthy and powerful in their desire to nullify those voices that need to be heard over those who need their social and political egos salved and saved.
