Nixon's Revenge: This Time, Republicans are ready to fight Impeachment

https://theintercept.com/2019/09/28/impeachment-republicans-nixon-watergate/

WITH THE HOUSE of Representatives formally commencing an impeachment inquiry into the actions of President Trump, America faces a moment of truth: Will the system work?

Obviously this doesn’t mean a system of basic, small-“d” democratic accountability. We don’t have anything like that. We’re less than a fifth of the way through the 21st century, and already U.S. elites have started one gigantic fraudulent war in the Middle East and nearly conjured a second Great Depression, with zero consequences for themselves.

What we do have is another kind of system, one that the right wing in the U.S. has been constructing since Watergate: a system to make sure no Republican president is ever forced from office again, no matter what they do — even if they shoot someone on 5th Avenue. The right has devoted decades of careful, patient investment to creating this system, which has three main arms.

First, there’s a gigantic media ecosystem, with Fox News at the apex and innumerable smaller creatures. Second, there’s an intelligentsia based in think tanks and Ivy League professorships funded by conservative foundations. Third, there’s a legion of right-wing judges carefully selected for monomaniacal partisan loyalty.

Republicans have invested much time and many resources over the course of the past 45 years in support of their scheme. One of the very few positives to come out in the era of Trump is that these Republican machinations are much more clearly visible. Democrats have much work to do.

What the article is really saying is that our laws rely upon politicians doing the right thing when it comes to country over party.

I remember back when Obama was elected president and Republican leadership immediately met in private and took an oath to obstruct everything that Obama and Democrats proposed. I was naïve, I thought that strategy will never work, will never fool the American people, boy was I wrong. The article explains how the MSM is complicit with Republicans, enables Republicans to get away with lying, follows the right wing narratives.

I love Joy Reid, but I watched her yesterday spending time debunking Republican conspiracy theories. There is nothing wrong with dismissing those lies but simply say, "those were debunked." Spending time talking about the Bidens in Ukraine is the narrative that Republicans want talked about, even if that narrative is being debunked.

The right controls the MSM and is getting control over the courts, even the SC has become politicized, is making decisions based on politics.

Thank you for posting this article, more people need to understand the lengths that the right will go to to stay in power.

That was the reason to get Giuliani on CNN the other night to keep repeating Hunter Biden. And now that's all the right is talking about.

in helping Trump win in '16, they downplayed and pissed all over KremlinGate until they literally could not ignore it any longer while being taken seriously as a 'journalistic' outfit, and they did nothing but mock and piss all over the #Resistance until we started winning races and became trendy...

Glenn Fucking Greenwald has deleted like 100,000 of his tweets, most of them from 2016 and earlier (along with every other high-profile pundit who was "Anybody But Hillary&quot ... Haven't you ever wondered why??
