(12,858 posts)2. Watched with friends in college dorm. Was sr in college, but not yet 21, so couldn't vote!!
As I recall, the room was full.
I recall going with friends to big arena in downtown Houston to hear Raeburn, LBJ. and JFK speak.
Some of us went to a big GOP rally in the city park across the street from campus. We stood at the back, maybe with a homemade sign, making typical snide college student comments. Several in the crowd yelled at us to go back to Russia where we belonged. We left soon after.

Many may not know/remember how badly SoBaptists freaked out at the very idea of a Roman Catholic maybe becoming president of the USA!
