Came to my attention via this Twitter post which was retweeted by comedian Patton Oswalt who I follow;

So basically, here's the recap; An American reality TV star and known conman who ascended to the presidency of the United States because of an outdated flaw in our election process, will be brought down because he tried to con ANOTHER TV star who became president of his country.
The irony is too delicious.

Greta is right.
How dare us.

(25,383 posts)I think he was targeted by Trump because Zelensky seems corrupt himself.
NPR was doing some background on him and he sounded corrupt at the time.

(45,003 posts)But I don't know much about this Ukrainian President. Hope he does the right thing.

(25,383 posts)It was just 3 months ago and he was considered a joke. I kept hearing about it on NPR.
Don't expect much from this guy. I kinda wonder if he was targeted by Trump because of this.

(25,383 posts)If so, yes and Zelensky would be likely to comply.
He founded his own political party in 2018
During the election campaign Zelensky continued to tour with Kvartal 95.[40] During the campaign his engagement with mainstream media was minimal.[35][e] He talked to the electorate on social media channels and in YouTube clips.[35] On 16 April 2019, 20 Ukrainian news outlets called on Zelensky to stop avoiding journalists.[35] Two days later, Zelensky stated that he was not hiding from journalists but that he did not want to go to talk shows where "people of the old power" were "just doing PR" and that he just did not have time to satisfy all interview requests.[42] Prior to the elections, Zelensky presented a team that included former Finance Minister Oleksandr Danylyuk and others.[43][41] During the campaign, concerns were raised over his links to the oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi.[44] On 19 April 2019 at Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex presidential debates were held in the form of a show.[45][46][47] In his introductory speech, Zelensky acknowledged that in 2014 he voted for Poroshenko, but "I was mistaken. We were mistaken. We voted for one Poroshenko, but received another. The first appears when there are video cameras, the other Petro sends Medvedchuk privietiki (greetings) to Moscow".

(7,134 posts)It's called Servant of the People. Season 1 is on Netflix and Season 2 is available on YouTube. It's hilarious. Zelensky's a very talented comedian. His subtle digs at Russia and Putin are brilliant.

(24,370 posts)I've not seen it, so I can not comment, nor did I make any reference to how good it is or isn't.
I found this interesting because Trumpy has been caught with his hands in the cookie jar, so to speak, and the guy holding the jar is another Trump! Or at least a Trump wannabe.
If the Ukrainian election was above board and this guy was elected by a majority, then more power to him.
You and I both know that isn't the case with the President of the United States.

(35,320 posts)Actors, repeating another's words with pathos and emotion.
Singers, often writing their own songs but often not writing their own songs ... And often really out of touch.
Catch either in an unscripted moment discussing anything they're not respected for talking about (often based on personal preferences and politics) and they're unadulterated dolts. "Yes, I think that we really need to be sure to use carrot enemas at least times a day to prevent nasal warts" or "Vaccines are evil because they disrupt ketone bodies and their role in providing for clear skin."
Comedians sometimes have an actual thought that doesn't demonstrate the awesome critical thinking skills of parroting what's trendy among their confidant(e)s.
Greenie's past profession isn't a secret, however.
