I think, McConnell is getting ready to backstab and sacrifice Trump.

What does McConnell want? The Republicans in charge. He has no loyalty towards Trump. All he wants is power for himself and for the GOP.

Let's look at how the 2020 election will go:

1. Poll after poll shows Trump losing to a democratic challenger. His polls look horrible, with him having trouble climbing above 40%.

2. Republican candidates complain that Trump is dragging them down in the polls. Some have turned towards the strategy of campaigning as Republicans who totally have nothing whatsoever to do with Trump.

3. The US Chamber of Commerce has scaled down their donations for the GOP because THEIR industrial donors don't want to be associated with Trump.

4. The GOP has lost their sugar-daddy David Koch.

5. Every sane person, including the no-nonsense republican politicos, knows that Trump at the presidential debates is a train-wreck waiting to happen. He will fuck up the debates just as he fucks up everything he touches.

6. Any economist worth his salt has realized that Trump is leading them into an economic crisis. It's the fear of a far-left democratic President, with tax-increases and regulations, that keeps them on the side of the Republicans.

Option 1: Put the fate of the GOP and of the stock-market into the hands of a demented, undisciplined, toxic buffoon.

Option 2: Cut your losses, separate yourself from Trump and hope that you lose in 2020 by a margin that's slim enough for the Republicans to keep control of the Senate anyways.

Every single republican Senator, including McConnell, is backing the investigation into Ukrainegate.

trump is not the kind of person who will take this calmly, he would take everyone down with him, unless of course there is a huge pay off to get him to step down!

It's really about what the chances of staying in power are. Are they better off removing Trump and taking their chances in 2020. Or do they need to ride this out?

between he and his wife. If investigations start sniffing too hard at his acts, maybe then he flips. But for now - He is still in the bag.

But - he does have a senate majority to reelect, so from time to time he will act outside of direct Trump enabling, OR we can't yet see how this move enables Trump.
