If Trump has to resign over Ukraine maybe Pence does also as he is very likely part of the coverup.

(115,735 posts)so they'd have to get him out before he could get that person approved by a majority of both houses of Congress (25th Amendment). I'm assuming the Democratic House could throw a spanner in the works and slow that down. Only then could the Speaker of the House become president.

(18,486 posts)But since the House would refuse to confirm a VP. nominee, she'd spend the rest of the term breathing down the president's neck ...

(15,124 posts)He will NEVER resign. For any reason. EVER! Because he will never admit that he isn't perfect, and because he fears prison. Figures the only way out of that is to stay in office. This is why he talks about third and fourth terms.

(7,800 posts)How can we just accept this?
We can't just accept Nancy Pelosi's House leadership - no matter what she doesn't to stop Trump - and anymore than we should just accept Trump!
This is supposed to be a frickin' democracy - for Chrissakes!!!

(43,182 posts)Only slight chance of that happening is if Trump is re-elected but we take the Senate.
Even then youre assuming a joint impeachment trial of Trump and Pence, which I dont think would happen.
But no way does any Republican vote to remove both and cede the White House. Maybe Trump alone, but never both.

(25,253 posts)does she just serve out Trump's term? Does she get a whole 4 year term? How does that work?

(2,945 posts)Pence will be gone, too, making her Pres. In that event the deplorables would place everyone's life at risk and she's not willing to risk the country.
That's not to say I don't want Trump impeached cuz I do.

(94,599 posts)First, Trump doesn't "have to resign". Second, even if he get Impeach and Convicted, it won't happen at the same instance as Pence. Pence would become President and would appoint a (Republican) VP who would replace him.

(3,266 posts)shes seemingly slow-walking impeachment so she doesnt seem to be - and the Rs cant accuse her of - being too eager to do so because she wants his seat? Of having nefarious motivation...
Maybe, the truth is so awful that it will bounce trump and pence both out of the WH, she knows this, and the possibility of her becoming Prez is actually real enough that shes taking every possible precaution, and appearing to be hesitant so that history can never accuse her of pushing him out so she can ascend.
What if the plan is to EITHER see him voted out in 2020, or begin impeachment proceedings the day after he wins re-election?

(9,959 posts)... it's likely. If Crooked Donald goes, Pence picks the VP. I think the Speaker is President if something happens to both the POTUS and VP - like they are in plane crash or something. If that happened, I hope Pelosi would pick Hillary as VP and resign - thus giving the vote to the candidate the people wanted in the first place.

(22,582 posts)If impeached the Senate will not vote to convict him because they are tied to Trump at the waist and his fate will be theirs.
The 25th Amendment? That's a fantasy of the Left which might make for a good tv show or novel but in reality it doesn't happen.
But fantasize away but in the meantime work hard to defeat Trump at the polls next year because that will be the only sure way to get both him and Pence out of office.

(18,663 posts)And then she will resign so Hillary becomes President
And then Hillary will nullify Trump's term by EO
And then she gets to fill the now open SCOTUS seats
And then add 4 more for good measure
And then SCOTUS rules we need to skip the 2020 election so she can serve a full term
And then Trump, his family and associates are jailed on Alcatraz
And then all Republicans resign from Congress in shame
And then the unicorns that have been hiding for thousands of years reveal themselves and cure all diseases with their magical powers so we won't even need universal health care
