67 year old woman mauled to death by her coonhounds

random pic of a coonhound

https://nypost.com/2019/09/09/upstate-new-york-woman-mauled-to-death-by-her-own-dogs/

Arlene Renna, 67, was found unconscious on her living room floor by her husband around 4 p.m. Saturday, when he got back to their house in Pleasant Valley, state police said.

Renna succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Police said the wounds were consistent with a dog attack.

Both of the coonhounds were taken by the Dutchess County SPCA and a judge will decide what happens to them, cops said.

It’s unclear how long the couple owned the hunting dogs, who are generally “sweet, mellow, sociable,” according to the American Kennel Club.

Details about what may have prompted the attack weren’t immediately available, but police said they found no evidence of foul play.

"I've read Teflon Don is the first president, who does not have a First Dog, because he considers dog-owners low class people.

Also, many people have noticed that dog-owners often have things in common with their canine pets.

Finally we have some candidates for First Dogs, desperately needed in the White House.

Coon hounds are almost always very sweet and non-aggressive.

What will the "all Pit Bulls are evil" crowd do with this story?

Putting that aside, this is a bizarre story. Coonhounds are generally owned by people who have them well-trained. They are an expensive breed, if the dogs in question are purebred. Our neighbors across the street have one, so I know a little bit about the breed through them. He's quite proud of his dog, and rightly so. He's put a lot of hard work into him.

The breed is never the problem, all dog attacks on people are unusual for their breed.

I've actually met a vicious Golden Retriever, any breed can go bad if their owners are clueless.

And I think the average dog owner really doesn't respect how capable of damage their dog is. Coon hounds are large dogs, 60 pounds or so. A 60 pound dog of any breed if enraged or under the impression you are prey can be more than a match for most adult persons. When a dog attacks, they do not have any weaknesses, there's not a lot of effective defenses.
