Honestly, the GOP and Mitt Romney should hang their heads in shame for what they did to Clint

I've been watching political conventions since Jimmy Carter first in 1976. I wasn't even 10 years old yet but I figured any guy who raised peanuts to make my favorite food - peanut butter, well he had to be a great guy.

It was Barbara Jordan, one of the best keynot address speakers EVER, who solidified me as a democrat but to be fair I always watched the republican conventions too. It wasn't until recently I had to stop watching because of how painful bad they are these days.

One thing I've learned over all these years is that the last night is all about your nominee. The political party is to close out that last night sending off their candidate of choice with a massive party & balloons & cheers & all the good wishes that will hopefully translate into a nice bump in the polls and to help solidify the win.

The GOP last night fucked up.

Royally!

What should have been the celebration of all things Mitt Romney instead closed their election with this message - Clint Eastwood is getting a bit crazy in his old age. I'm reading all the newspapers and not one of them is headlining with Mitt's speech or about the candidates but instead how Clint Eastwood made a fool of himself talking to an empty chair. That is not the message viewers of the convention should be getting out of the convention.

I'll admit, I barely watched it. I mean there was a video out there but I think I managed for about 1-2 minutes until I just felt downright sorry for Clint Eastwood. I mean I'm a huge fan of Clint. I always knew he was a republican leaning towards libertarian but he spoke in favor of marriage equality so I figured he wasn't that bad of a republican. Clint has had a lifetime of amazing work both as an actor and as a director, some of his movies rate up there with some of my favorites.

But last night I'm not sure who that was playing Clint Eastwood on stage. He looked like some person who got lost outside of his nursing home and wandered on stage talking to his imaginary friend sitting in the seat next to him. That's embarrassing and it's shameful that no one who organized this convention from the organizers all the way up to Mitt Romney himself thought to ask the question - "Is Clint Competent enough to do this?"

A smart move would have been to have Clint join Mitt on the stage at the end of the convention and give Clint a few lines to say like 'I'm voting for Mitt Romney'. That would have given the supports a real bang for their bucks and perhaps be a highlight of the convention. Instead we have what convention historians have called the worst moment ever in convention history. That's sad that it happened that way and shameful that the GOP allowed it.

I'll still watch Clint Eastwood movies but everytime I see them I'm going to see flashbacks of the crazy man talking to the chair.

He's an asshole. He's always been one. He's overrated as a director. I've never liked his movies. I was delighted he made a fool out of himself and the pukes and that he'll be the indelible image of this train wreck convention. I don't feel even a smidgeon sorry for the asswipe.

Fuck him.

where he shot the same Mexicans over and over.

I never bought that he was a "great" actor.

At least nobody had to pay a buck for that last night.

He demeaned the President. It was pitiful and mean, and meant to inflict pain. I'm sorry he's old and feeble now but I don't excuse him.

I like some of Clint's characters but most of the movies he did that I like are just candy for the brain. A lot of squinting and saying some tough guy one liners isn't really acting. Some of his movies are just unbearable to watch. I too have been watching these things for many years and they have always been multimillion dollar ads preaching to the choir.

Clint embarrassed and shamed Republican party and the whole US political culture of nincamboob-scripted make-believe. On purpose.

I don't think he's quite all right. Would like to think he wouldn't have gotten roped into this if he was in his right mind, but whatever.

He's still a talented actor & director with a great body of work but not someone I would ever want to have over for dinner, let's put it that way!

I don't remember exactly, but what I do remember is that he acted senile for a second, but then chuckled like he was kidding and then responded in an alert manner. The thing is, he just isn't that good of an actor and his senile bit was spot-on. He has been hit in the head quite a bit too.

His bit at the RNC was late night, his mental state may decline in the evening as sometimes happens with age. Maybe he has covered his decline well, but I agree, someone really dropped the ball.
