@EricTrump
This was a reckless attempt to slander our family and smear a great company. Apologies are not enough when the true intent was solely to damage and cause harm. As a company, we will be taking legal action. This unethical behavior has to stop.

Last night I made an error in judgment by reporting an item about the presidents finances that didnt go through our rigorous verification and standards process. I shouldnt have reported it and I was wrong to discuss it on the air. I will address the issue on my show tonight.

(19,348 posts)not born in America. The consequences of a foreign born President (which he was not) are far more serious than anything O'Donnell said . A foreign born President would not be legitimate.

(3,396 posts)If they sue, they would have to prove the accusation is false, and its probably true. Regardless, it would require them to disclose some things they probably dont want to disclose. This is sound and fury, signifying nothing.

(32,016 posts)Public figures rarely sue for libel because it is difficult in the U.S. for them to prove defamation no matter what is said. For NBC and McDonnell to immediately respond means that they had nothing to back them up.

(27,815 posts)You know you'll have to prove in court that what O'Donnell said is false, and show the documents that disprove it?
But of course you don't know that, because you're even more of an idiot than your father is - and that's sayin' something.

(12,712 posts)your family seems to win the "thou protesteth too loudly" award. Tell Dad, he likes awards and being best.
First off, are you that much of an professional ignoramus to think that your family hasn't already been smeared and even self-slandered, (is that possible) by your pitiful, pungent, pestilent, Patriarch? Your family has already been smeared so far across our collective pavement like a thick wad of dog excrement stuck on Dad's Fascist-colored shoes and the smell itself calls for legal action. And what kind of company can call itself "great" with the long list of product failures it sports, buying its merchandise from China, and illegally profiting off of the highest office in our great country, you weasel in a suit.
And you are right, any apologies from your family will never be enough to rectify the results of your true intents that have done nothing but damage and cause harm to an entire country. Like your Father, you are prone to projection, so look in mirror you petulant little money grubber and say: "This unethical behavior has to stop." Now, go bow before your Pappy, or genuflect, or whatever you do, and set him straight.
Shove it, Eric. Shove it. Put that righteous indignation where it belongs, the same place you have your head stuck in.

(115,719 posts)The thing about defamation suits is that the defendant gets to conduct discovery. In this case, that's likely to involve demands for the production of loan documents and tax returns - the very things the Trumps have been trying to keep from seeing the light of day.
But although his wheel is spinning, the hamster is dead.

(3,245 posts)Please give me permission to use this, that's a great line,
As to discovery, this would also put Lawrence in a bind also. Wouldn't discovery give Trump the opportunity to make Lawrence give up his source?
And since it's at this point, single source, doesn't that put him in a precarious position?
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,719 posts)Some jurisdictions grant reporters a limited privilege against being required to reveal a source, but in most of the cases where this has been tested, the government is demanding the disclosure. There are DoJ guidelines to the effect that the government "should have made all reasonable attempts to obtain the information from alternative, non-media sources before considering issuing a subpoena to a member of the news media. I'm not sure whether this would also apply to a civil case.

It's an absurdity that O'Donnell has to apologize to the man who would fall over if not for his two legs: falsity and defamation.

"Trump Boys Frantically Burning Stacks Of Printed-Out Emails To Eliminate Paper Trail"
WASHINGTONAfter learning that their fathers associates Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen were guilty of crimes and Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigation was continuing to expand, Eric and Donald Trump Jr. were reportedly frantically burning stacks of their printed-out emails Wednesday to eliminate their paper trail. Okay, Eric, I think we melted down all the stuff we wrote from last year so now Mr. Mueller cant never find ittime to start wrecking all the emails from this year, said Trump Jr., who, along with his brother, had stayed up all night printing out every single email ever sent or received by either of the boys and setting the stacks of paper ablaze in a plastic garbage can to eliminate any evidence that could be used against them in an investigation. We gotta type up copies of our texts so we can print them out and burn those, tooyou cant be too careful with the witch hunt. And once we finish burning all the evidence, we have to take pictures of our faces on Instagram and then print out those, too, and burn them so we can delete our identities. Then we have to leave and never come back, okay? We have to go to one of the small dots on a map where they cant find us. At press time, the Trump boys were attempting to erase any trace of their deliberate destruction of evidence by using masking tape to secure rocks to the top of the printer and pushing the device into the depths of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool where it would never, ever be found.

"And this is what he said. He said, 'Well, we dont rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.' I said, 'Really?' And he said, 'Oh, yeah. Weve got some guys that really, really love golf, and theyre really invested in our programs. We just go there all the time."
