For all you folks rooting for a direct hurricane hit on Mar a Lago...

...Please stop.

Some of us happen to live in the area and it’s not as though a hurricane with a 150 mile wind diameter is going to magically shrink to one tiny location.

The shitty thing about hurricanes is that unless it’s a true fish storm, somebody will get hit. Maybe it will be you or maybe it will be somebody else but you shouldn’t be rooting for it to hit any particular locale at all.

So, please stop. If we get hit, so be it, but we can all be a little more grown up than this.

They are just wishes though and I guess that it is cathartic.

I don't think most people wishing for a hit on Mar-a-lago believe in magical thinking, so it would be harmless in that sense anyway. That being the case, it would never be directed at you and the people there even if wishes could do that.

Be safe and well there, and may the storm completely pass you by That's my wish.

Cheeto wouldn't get hurt.

Cheeto, in fact, would probably make a little extra from this, by way of what will almost certainly be insurance fraud on his part.

Many of the good people of Palm Beach County would - on the other hand - be hurt.

They may lose belongings, their homes, and possibly their lives.

Far be it from any of us to wish any of them that.

with Colorado Springs" because of the FUNDY RW and heavily conservative politics. Likewise for other areas of Colorado that some assumed were all populated with multimillion-dollar mansions as with some areas of Aspen and Vail. People, REGULAR people--typically the less mobile elderly-- died in some of those fires as did countless wildlife and some pets and livestock!

Bottom line, don't wish harm on anyone and you won't be the recipient of chastisement and embarrassment.

If Mar a Lago was flattened with not a bit of damage to surroundings or people or animals, it might sound tempting to hope for. But if you don't think the taxpayers would get stuck paying for it via FEMA, you've not been paying attention.

We had DUers living in the paths of those wildfires and yet, a couple of posters continued to express their wish that, because CO Springs and some of the other areas had predominantly RW residents, they somehow deserve it and vocally applauded the destruction.

Does no harm? Indeed NOT the case. Ugly, but it has nothing to do with belief in religion. Expressed hatred and anger DOES cause harm.

Come on down and help us board up, find high ground for our cars, tie our boats out, wait in line for gas, water, batteries, food, flashlights, propane, tarps, etc. Come help decide if we should leave or ride it out. Come help when we miss work because businesses close and we lose pay.

Yeah, “dude”, come on down and show us how funny you think it is when you hear the wind shrieking outside, the rain pounding, and the ocean begins to rise.

I'm sure people are just fantasizing about the Schadenfreude if the hurricane hit Trump right after he bled FEMA dry. Nobody really wants a storm to hit the US (or anywhere else).

The only reason for concern is if one believes that if enough people wish it, it will come true. If such superstition is real, then I'd be booking a flight to Nebraska if I were you.

Wish for a lightning strike to fry Trump's hair. He doesn't have to suffer any bodily harm, just some public [read: global] humiliation.

If something like that were to happen, it would be interpreted in different ways. Not dying from a lightning strike would be seen as a miracle by some folk. The important thing is that What'shisface would hate it, and possibly shake his fist and utter a curse towards the heavens which would sink his approval with a large swath of believers.

More importantly, it would be very funny.

The place where they got married (on the water, in Panama City), and the house they lived in - both gone. All the beautiful tall trees went down and took a lot with it. Their then-three year old was afraid of trees for a while, because he saw them come through his roof (but he still put on his little hard hat and went to help clean it up). They had to live with their in-laws, then they were in a trailer, her place of work shut down until about two weeks ago, the list goes on. They've gotten NO aid from FEMA (which seems to operate only under Democrats). It's been heart-wrenching to see a young couple go through this. Her friends and family back in Michigan had to hold a fundraiser.

I agree, not anything to take lightly.

Our relatives from NJ are staying put as they should. We're all down in Broward County so we're better off hunkering down here. We had rented a giant house for the weekend up near Disney. No good will come from this storm. I understand that everyone around here loathes Trump. He's one person that I wish had never even existed. It's like his mom had an abortion that survived and came to plague the entire world. He is a pariah and I hope he's gone soon, either by impeachment or getting beat at the voting booth.

... during the awful summer of 2004. The town I lived in (Stuart, FL) took two direct landfall hits from hurricanes Frances and Jeanne, just three weeks apart. The worst experience of my whole life.

Devastation was like nothing I'd ever seen before, and we had no power for the next eight days. I lived on tinned food and had no hot water for showering, but I was among the luckier residents, only getting some minor roof damage on my newer-build house.

The poorest folks were the hardest hit (as always). The local trailer parks and older neighborhoods were torn to pieces, some of them reduced to matchwood.

There are a lot of really good people living down in S. Florida, many elderly, retired and disabled, who can't prepare or flee quickly when this sh*t goes down, so please bear them in mind when wishing hell & damnation on their worst neighbour.

No matter how bad the damage, SCROTUS never would admit that climate change had anything to do with it.

Besides, everyone here who posted that Herr Drumpf would force us to pay for repairs is right.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Palm Beach County. It is filled with nice people.

Someone else will clean up the mess, just like every other mess this monster has made.
As for me, and the other Florida DU'ers, we have to clean up the mess. We have to deal with no power and possibly major repairs to our homes. It's not funny, or exciting - it's a freakin horror.

Please stop? If wishing made things so Trump would have fallen in a vat of acid long ago. You want it should hit somebody else? I mean, you got to admit, if one is going to hit the Florida coast I sure can't think of a better place to hit. It would be even more biblical than Trump's "Christianity." And taking out all those mansions would mean much more densely populated low income areas would suffer less.

You have no idea what a hurricane is and what devastation it brings to a region.

A hurricane brings destruction the likes you have no comprehension of. You may want to hold your tongue (type). You know not of what you speak. Keep your mouth (type) shut.

Just a suggestion from a person who has lived through enough hurricanes. Specifically Ivan and Dennis. Do a little research.

If you are a person wishing the devastation of a hurricane on anyone. Shame on you. I don't believe I've read a post on DU wishing the death of any of your family or friends, or the total destruction of your property. You should be ashamed.

We all wish that we had a normal world. Sadly with all the environmental changes, our planet is lashing out.

The man we call as our current President, is an idiot! He truly believes he is perfect and smart, yet he con thousands into fake degrees, holds the largest Bankruptcy and LIES every sentence he speaks.

We all wish for his prized possession to be in ruins, but those we love and respect should run away. Those who works for him, supports trump.

The ONLY REASON drumpf canceled his trip to Poland was because Mar-a-lago may be in the hurricane's path; once again it is ONLY about him and his stuff. If drumpf cared about hurricane victims he wouldn't have siphoned off millions from FEMA for his narcissistic border wall. You know why people wish for a hurricane direct hit on a drumpf grifter property.

Though, admittedly, the damage to his property would give Drumpf a titanic hissy fit. Tommy Carcetti is very right about this matter; were Dorian to wipe out the entire region, Cheeto Mussolini would demand that the USA rebuild his golf course. The rest of Southeastern Florida will be expected to have burnished their swimming skills.

I Agree. One hopes that Dorian misses Florida altogether, even if this means that Mar a Lago remains undamaged and open for business. Impeachment is the only shitstorm that is narrow enough to rip up Trump, and Trump only.
