(14,974 posts)3. Yes. China massively increased soy purchases from Brazil during 1st round of Trump's trade war,
whilst zeroing out their US soy purchases. This most recent round of sanctions and counter-sanctions saw China's US farm purchases go to zero again. Brazil is responding to virtually certain increased demand from the largest national population on earth -- which also has a highly politicized economy with single-party rule and many massive state-owned businesses/sectors.

the Amazon soil is so poor that farmers only get one crop of whatever they plant. That means the farmers have to keep burning to make the next crop. That will lead to total destruction.
