Like media, I too am "shocked" that ANYONE with insight would endorse impeachment if the House of Representatives votes to impeach Teflon Don.

(1) The GOP controlled Senate has already pledged to block the impeachment, which takes a 2/3 majority to approve.

(2) In a reelection bid Trump obtains significant, irrefutable talking points, because an attempted impeachment failed.

(3) Instead of getting several Republican senators voted out of office, the US Senate will remain under GOP control, as Trump policies become more acceptable to swing voters.

(4) Media focus is changed from Trump's failed policies and crimes (including Obstruction of Justice, his refusal to release income tax returns and collusion with enemies of the USA.

The impeachment inquiry is happening now. They can still hold up a vote on actual articles for some time.

In the meantime, the economy that Obama left and Trump has systematically undermined is getting soft. We're in for a significant downturn, and an increasing number of indicators are showing weakening, slowing.

Moodys, the Fed and others are now predicting at the least a major slowing in job growth. It will happen as Trump keeps screwing around with this trade war, and will be exacerbated by the grossly irresponsible tax cut for billionaire donors coupled with feckless across-the-board deregulation. There are a bunch of bubbles out there, and when they all burst, it will be akin to what happened in '08.

I believe this recession will hit in just a couple of months - toward the end of this year, and it will deepen through the first quarter of 2020. It will be a time of economic misery with high unemployment and a government incapable of doing what will need to be done to make itself the spender of last resort. Demand will go down, down, down, and layoffs will increase over months.

There will be massive social unrest because 8 of 10 Americans cannot even sustain $400 in unplanned expenditures. If a recession hits and millions are laid off, and unemployment has to be cut because of the unsustainable Trump national debt, rioting will happen across the nation.

At the same time, the impeachment hearings will be bringing up crime after crime, and the public will be exposed to that, and they will rightly blame Trump and the Republicans. So, if the articles are passed by the House, say in October, in a time of economic misery for most Americans, the country will be painted blue in November.

Those are my prognostications, at least.

But I don’t think there will be widespread violence or rioting. It may mirror the sixties with different areas that are effected more raising up...ok the more I tap this out I’m remembering those days...one led to another...without any social media.

Crap on a cracker Patrick...think you may have it nailed...god I hope this never happens.

And yet, here we are. Say, have you seen that documentary, The Brainwashing of my Dad? Because that's why we're so darned polarized.

In our parents' day, we weren't even close to being this far apart. And I was reading in the stupid media that according to surveys, (not sure WHAT surveys, but 'according to surveys,') 59% of Americans fear violence from people who dislike Trump's policies.

Think about THAT for a minute. They've got that one totally backwards.

Meanwhile, support has crept up among Democratic congressmen, all the way to half.

This is similar to a jury deliberating BEFORE the evidence is presented. An impeachment inquiry has a legitimate function. It’s to present evidence to argue for or against impeachment. The House hasn’t heard all of the evidence yet, and neither have the American people.

That's what's happening. No recommendation has been sent to the Republican-controlled senate, which would then conduct a trial and, of course, until and if big change occurred, would absolve Trump of all charges.

committee decides to move forward with investigation/inquiry. The chair, Jerry Nadler, did explain it was on, making the rounds of the talk shows, etc.

They're doing a balancing act, proceeding with gathering evidence without a lot of drama. That's because even a majority of Democrats do NOT want impeachment, while a large majority of the electorate does not.

And right now we have a senate that will not find guilt no matter what evidence is presented and an election fast approaching that may well decide the future of our nation -- to continue as a liberal democracy or become a RW authoritarian state. So we gather what we hope will eventually be overwhelming evidence that will swing the balance of support to removal.

But in the meantime, Trump himself may. The media are now openly discussing his mental state as it appears to have deteriorated. THAT'S HUGE. I'm as sure as I can be that our party leaders have been receiving reports on his mental status that started before he even took office. Media are also openly reporting that many on Wall Street believe Trump is manipulating the stock market via his tweets to benefit himself and his cronies...
