House Democrats plan ammunition ban vote next month

Some House Democrats will return early from the summer recess to advance gun control legislation, including a bill banning large ammunition clips.

The House Judiciary Committee announced a Sept. 4 vote on a group of measures aimed at reducing gun violence.

“For far too long, politicians in Washington have only offered thoughts and prayers in the wake of gun violence tragedies,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said. “Thoughts and prayers have never been enough. To keep our communities safe, we must act.”

The Democrat-led House passed a universal background check bill in February but the GOP-led Senate has ignored it so far due to a lack of significant Republican support.

.223 and 5.56 rounds being sold to the public. That will limit the damage the crazies do. I don't care if the keep their "assault" rifles after limiting the magazine to a max 10 round capacity and forcing them to use .22's.

AR's are easily converted to different calibers...say the 300AAC Blackout, or .308...much more destructive loads.
This picture is just the difference in potential ammo that can be run in an AR with different parts...also a .22 s/l/lr/mag.... can be just as deadly as a .50cal...or a 5.56/.223

you go to prison. I can't imagine many would change out the barrel and pay $1+ per round for .300 blackouts. If you want to hunt then buy a hunting rifle. If you have any magazine over 10 rounds ( I own firearms and I would be satisfied with 5) you go to prison. I am in CT and magazines are limited to 10. Because I already had 17 round magazines they have to be registered with the State. I can live with that.

You don't modify the barrel for "terminal velocity"...that would be a bullet restriction..modification

A sky diver hits TV at about 54m/sec....120ish mph if jumped at normal altitudes.......a .22short is about 319m/sec out of your back door.

"I can't imagine many would change out the barrel and pay $1+ per round for .300 blackouts. If you want to hunt then buy a hunting rifle."
I have a Mk4SMLE...303British WWII rifle ..almost $50.00 to fill that 10rd box..I shoot it often.

"If you want to hunt then buy a hunting rifle."... what do you consider a "hunting rifle" I've used that old .303 for yrs for deer......and what are we hunting?
When I went to Texas last yr hunting wild pigs.... the .223 was the round to use.

You want to shoot game with a bullet going that slow...you know TV.....some cars go faster.
Most Arrows go faster than TV.

It also is the historical limit of old bolt action rifles like the .303 Lee-Enfield, which actually has a removable magazine though the British army supplied stripper clips instead.

A ban would be impossible to defend in court.

The story refers to a plan to ban high capacity magazines, not ammunition. The magazine (high capacity or otherwise) is the container the ammunition goes into. It is not the ammunition itself.

Right now, Trump and McConnell feel like they've outlasted the outrage again. The House needs to keep sending bills to the Senate and blaming McConnell for his obstructionist ways. Paint him and Trump in the garish colors of extremists who want Americans to keep being gunned down in the streets. It's good politics and has the indisputable advantage of being right.
