"Democrats hate America and the middle class."

I read this over and over again in comments after articles in the local papers, and I’m just flummoxed as to how anyone with more than two brain cells comes to this conclusion. What is it that they think we hate?

1. They think Dems don't like white people, but really it's that Dems want to hold everyone accountable

under the law and not preference anyone. They think ( rich) white people deserve special privileges and that laws don't apply to them.

A whole lot of us are just ordinary middle-class taxpayers, some white and some not, who want safe streets, clean air and water, affordable health care and rational government and who don't hate America, because we fucking live here, too.

I'm paraphrasing but Democrats generally love America in a way that recognizes both its strengths and weaknesses and works for improvement both in how the country is managed and how we treat other people globally.

And Republicans generally love America in a more immature way, believing that everything we do, right or wrong, is justified and that we're perfect- essentially hardcore American exceptionalism. "America can do no wrong" "Love it or leave it!" "Leaving your hat on during the national anthem is disgraceful!"
