General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAfter the last few days, I'm wondering where the "unfit to serve as president" bar is currently set.
The prop baby photo op?
The re-tweeted conspiracy theories about a pedophile and a former president?
I'm not talking about where Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Nadler are at in the process...I've followed it, I understand what's going on.
I'm talking about the shifting sands under the spineless and complicit Republican-led Senate.
Mitch McConnell is currently enjoying an 18 percent approval rate in Kentucky. 37 percent of the people in a Public Policy Polling Survey said they plan to vote for him in 2020, 44 percent said they'd vote for the Democrat.
And yes, I fully understand that what people say in polls and what they actually do in a voting booth can be two very different things.
But his wagon also isn't hitched to a well-loved incumbent president.
Asshole's gonna be on the golf course for the next week and a half.
What we saw today is probably an indication of what we'll see for the rest of his "vacation."
Where is the bar set? What's it going to take? Are we really going to ride this to November 2020?
Is there a snowball's chance in hell that enough members of the Senate, and McConnell himself, will say "Fuck that, I'm not going down with him?"

(31,532 posts)Every time I think the lowest bar has been reached, damn, if they don't find an even lower setting. It seems unbelievable, but there it is.
The baby photo OP was several notches lower than I could have ever imagined, even from Trump. Standing there with a child who has been orphaned because of his hateful rhetoric, grinning like a shit eating possum, giving a cheesy thumbs up with his "I don't care do you" third lady by his side is one of the most despicable things I've seen.
I won't be surprised when we see him posing with a corpse.

Noam Chomsky said in 1998:
The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate.
