The NRA should have absolutely zero influence on law making. Most Americans do not agree with them. Too bad politicians will do their bidding just for money. Blood on all of their hands.

(17,305 posts)They claim to have 5 million members. How many kids are in school across this country fearing that a shooter is going to burst into their place of learning and start firing indiscriminately? How many kids are having to conduct "shooter" drills? How many kids are now wearing bullet-proof backpacks to school?
Add 'em all up and it far exceeds the NRA's 5 million members.
You're right, the NRA should do as it's told, not as it decrees.

(17,985 posts)The NRA has become a bankrupt agency that is being run by crooks. They have no power left.
They funneled money from Russia in the 2016 election.

(6,916 posts)The definition of terrorism is killing civilians for political ends. The NRA encourages such killing to get votes for Republicans and to make money for its leadership and donors. That is the very definition of terrorism.
That said, the NRAs power with politicians comes from votes, not only from money. Theyve been able to get their members to vote based on NRA ratings. Thats what we need to change. Its happening right now. Moms Demand Action is a great place to support if you want change.

(10,011 posts)Spineless Republicans have no thoughts of their own and must consult with the NRA and their billionaire backers like the Kochs so they know what to think and say. Empty brains galore in that party.

(20,018 posts)So, then, there IS a party that's gone after the NRA?
FakeNoose
(32,641 posts)Yes of course they've contributed to most of the Senators and Congressmen who call themselves Republicans, that's a given. But their real power is the fear they instill in those people that they will be primaried if they should ever do or say anything that goes against NRA policies. That's what the NRA has done for the last 50 years and will continue to do, as long as they exist. The government must shut this organization down.

(11,996 posts)In the 2018 election cycle so far, gun rights groups, including the NRA, have outspent the competition more than 40 to 1
Only when this shit is no longer allowed, or when enough people overcome their influence, will groups like the NRA not matter.
They are a low hanging fruit that everyone can blame - but NO one will do anything about...too much money, when all such money equals power.
