As usual, Trump tried to make El Paso all about himself, bragging about his previous rally numbers there. He and his minions routinely try to mold reality to suit their own perceptions, and increasingly that act is not playing well...

Vonnegut said the fascist mind worked like a cuckoo clock keeping time in hell. That they grind off some of the teeth of the gears in their minds, purposefully.

Killing Obergruppenfuhrer Fegelein by firing squad, while the bombs were dropping around hitler's bunker, was crazy. On the other hand, I have passed on the right in a disappearing merging lane in a fit of anger before. I bought some lottery tickets in the past, too.

Just showed what Toni Morrison said.”They are in total fear of losing control.” Those are not her exact words but it is revealing of the thinking.

As a white person I do not feel that fear. It may be too simplistic as to what we are facing. I am much more fearful of the rage being generated by the White Nationalist whose sole existence is based on hate. That is the mental illness that bothers me.

I want a Country where we can live together.. On the other hand I am well aware of The racists who feed hate, too. Both blame anyone but me.

And it all starts with self.

I'm more of an anti nazi american who isn't doing a lot of self reflection when it comes to action advocacy against pro nazis.

The left side does > 90% of the self reflecting done in this country and world. I'm not against studying the angles and reflecting on ideas and 'facts'. But I'll stand pat on not tolerating their intolerance. Self defense vs. civil war threats is intelligent and moral.

And Media Fact Check is wrong. Jimmy Finkelstein is the owner. He’s a billionaire who acted as a Trump fundraiser. He used the Hill to criticize the media after people dared to criticize the president after the Correspondents’ dinner. He hired John Solomon at The Hill to smear Hillary. The op-Ed pages at the Hill are twisted by Republican lies.

As for the WSJ, if you enjoy being brainwashed by Rupert Murdoch, by all means please keep reading that conservative BS. I think patriotic Americans who care about equality and diversity and rule of law should ignore the WSJ and read the FT instead. And I will continue to tell anyone at Democratic Underground who posts stories from the Murdoch WSJ to evaluate their information choices.

Sat Aug 10, 2019, 03:32 PM
Aug 2019

Propaganda can be subtle.

Moreover, none of us have the time to dissect each propaganda story from the Murdoch WSJ.

In fact, Murdoch used the WSJ to get trump elected. How? His editor did that by telling the newsroom to be less hard on Trump (google “Gerry Baker WSJ newsroom” for details.)

So how the heck are you ever going to be able to fight that by analyzing each story?
You can’t.
The propaganda is in the choice of topics, and in the way stories are written to highlight facts that make Dems look bad and omit facts to make Republicans look good.

Our only option is to say
“It’s run by a rightwing billionaire who uses it to harm us.”
And ignore it. And move on.

I read most big stories more than once from more than one source. Thats the only way to get the meat of a story. I was told that "most" of my OPs were from rightwing sources. Thats a LIE. And neither source is considered rightwing by Media Fact Check, and THEY are deemed reliable arbiters.
I just cant believe what i'm seeing here. Its the same stuff i see on FB every day about ignoring stories because of the source. Trumps favorite tool.
But hey, to each their own. My world is a big world. i like it that way. I play to win, and thats what i'm working for in '20

Publicly proclaiming himself, and the child's dead parents, staunch Trump supporters .. and then rushing the traumatized child BACK to the hospital for a photo op with the Pres. (which has since been trumpeted across the media as a cringe-worthy ode to a stunning lack of empathy and situational ethics ..) But oldsoftie wants to sell it as this man "deserves to be left alone?" Perhaps after he stops pimping himself, and his battered nephew, out for photo ops? Like I said, HE painted that target. Sat Aug 10, 2019, 09:09 AM

Typical crappy NYT article which merely quotes people from both sides, and the Republicans are lying. As usual.

Also this article highlights how the press got snowed by Trump. Are they proud of covering his constructed photo op so acceptingly? Why did the press not cover all the protestors outside the El Paso hospital?

The president puts together a propaganda photo op and the only reason it works is that the press covers it compliantly, without giving appropriate weight to the protests outside.

Thumbs up from me for that post.

I am sick to death of hearing Trump’s ignorant lies shown over and over again.

On another note I just came from the Library where the parking lot was full of monstrous trucks. We are having a big Parade and Festival. I had to park between 2 big trucks. When I came out people were every where.

I simply asked a Policeman if he would back my car out. He did and another Policeman gave me directions to get out.

This is the difference in real life and the constant Reality show we see on cable.

We’re caught between the legitimate media like NYT which is severely bothsidesist, the for-profit media like CNN and MSNBC which hypes drama and hate and strife for money, and the rightwing propaganda media like Fox and WSJ... which is designed to lie to us to get white people to vote for billionaires’ tax cuts.

Ugh. I say: turn off cable news, and read the WaPo, TPM, Atlantic, and New Yorker. Also listen to reality-based podcasts from Pod Save America to the Guaridan.
