(3,485 posts)It always came to my house and to my Aunt and Uncle's house, even though we lived in freaking South Carolina and they lived in Birmingham, Alabama.
The resistance was doing what it could even then

(5,106 posts)but we lived in Pennsylvania, so not so much of a disconnect. I was already an adult when Mother Jones came out, but my mom introduced me. My mom was one of a few active Democrats in a very Republican town, and introduced JFK when he passed through in 1960. My dad never voted for a Republican, except locally, in his life, but always registered Republican because he felt he should be safe professionally(?). My mom even voted for our excellent local Republican state congressman. Those days are long gone. I remember when there actually used to be some good Republicans. They weren't always all spineless assholes. Even Nixon did some good stuff, regardless of his paranoid personality. Vindictive? Nobody could have expected Trump.. even less than the Spanish Inquisition.
