So I always wear my ball cap with the patch of my first ship, the one-year Vietnam one, plus my dogtag and my internet memorial USN ring and my memorial bracelet - get the pic?!1
And all this stuff are like magnets for the wingnut/chickenhawks who want to "thank (me) for (my) service."
*******I'll skip the details. But today in the big store, there I was looking for the color-fast-Arm'n'Hammer/Purex things, when a couple in their early 20s approached, the dude in front aggressively - because of my Navy cap - and he had a wildeyed look in his eyes and stuck his hand out to shake.
But my peripheral vision saw something about his ball cap, something starting with a "T". And I said, before reciprocating the handshake, "Wait a minnit ..." and I had to twist around to see what the "T" ended up being. And he kept twisting his head around to sort of hide it, still with the big sick smile.
And I saw "Trump 2020" as his logo.
So I had the prescience of mind to say, "***********NO, SUH!!!!!!1*********"
And didn't give my hand. And his girlfriend gasped and said, "OMG!"
I literally departed that area of the store onto the other end of the store, thinking the weirdo a-hole might press the issue.

(18,303 posts)My husband is an FDNY 9/11 survivor who to this day says that Hillary Clinton saved his life. She fought to get medical care, monitoring, and at-cost medication for first responders whose illnesses were not originally covered because they were rare.
In 2016 he was at a middle school football game to see our grandson. He was wearing an FDNY hoodie and a Hillary Clinton button. A woman came down from the bleachers, confronted him angrily, and tried to snatch the button off.
"How dare you wear that button with that shirt!!! Didn't you see the Benghazi movie?"
My husband who is smart and funny just looked at her and said, "No, but I have seen Triumph of the Will."
Thank you for your service!

I would thank you for your service if I ever saw you out and about in your hat ...and I aint no wingnut chickenhawk. 😁🤣
Men from my family represent all of the Armed Forces - all vets.
Was taught to respect that service before it was white militant bs.
Glad to be on DU with you. Take care

Works great because if challenged at work I can just claim I like wearing a flower.
