Fairfax County Police tweeted they were responding to reports of a man with a weapon at the Gannett Building around noon Wednesday located at 7950 Jones Branch Drive in McLean, Virginia.

Employees said they were being directed to leave the building.

Alarms sounded at the building as police squad cars converged on the scene. Law enforcement officers with rifles and body armor were patrolling the area and a helicopter hovered overhead.

A USA TODAY editor on scene said building security said it was "suspicious activity," but police had not offered further details.

This is a developing story and will be updated. (no more currently at link below)
