The plot:
It starts with light-hearted shenanigans when a guy is hired to impersonate the President to cover up his extra-marital affair.
It ends with the President being implicated in a financial scandal, which triggers national outrage, condemnations and calls for resignation.
The scandal is resolved when the protagonists face the accusations head-on, take responsibility and produce documents that show what really happened.
This is absolutely quaint and unrealistic for two reasons:
1. Nobody gives a shit anymore whether the President committed financial fraud.
2. A real President would attack the press, he would call the allegations a witch-hunt, he would sabotage the investigations, install a lackey as Attorney-General and then declare himself exonerated.

(43,191 posts)Nobody would care about a financial scandal...unless there is a Republican Congress and a Democratic President.
Then suddenly it will become the greatest crime of all time, even if theres no merit at all to it. Remember Whitewater?
I did enjoy the Dave movie, though. I remember watching them film a scene at an Orioles baseball game.

(66,446 posts)There was lot of snickering over the movie at the time it was released, President named Bill, cheats on his wife, wife is a strong independent person with a cool relationship with her husband...they were talking about Bill Clinton.
But the movie makes it clear that Bill Mitchell is a Republican. All of his political allies are from the GOP, and all of his opponents are Democrats.
