What's the possible downside to "not impeaching"?

Will it inspire more Democrats to go to the polls? Or will many Democrats sit out the next election because Democrats look weak and indecisive?

Would Trump supporters see the failure of Democrats to impeach as validation of their support for Donald Trump?

Would Trump say that he has been proven innocent of all the charges because the Democrats would have impeached if they had any proof of crimes or wrong-doing?

Would the majority of Americans believe it was a "witch hunt" and a "hoax"?

Would they say that the Democrats did not even have enough evidence for an "impeachment inquiry", let alone an impeachment proceeding?

For those that believe it is a lot safer for Democrats in the next election if they do not impeach, that may not necessarily be true?

It may be more precarious for the Democrats to not impeach than to impeach?

Whatever they decide to do, they had better be ready to defend their decision.

Democrats are not an "organized" Party. They will need a reason to vote for Democrats. I'm not sure that "not impeaching Trump" is the reason they need?

voter turnout. Those who know exactly what Trump is all about and who voted for Dems to do something about it in the midterms will be angry or at least disillusioned.

For those who are only moderately aware of what Trump is all about and has done, failure to impeach dramatically reduces the chance they will find out before the election.

I think this is why Pelosi is trying to delay. Maybe she really doesn't want to impeach, but I think she knows that if they DO, they have to drag it out until election day so that there is no referral to the Senate before then.

5. Speaker Pelosi is worried about this stunt giving the GOP control of the House

If you think that giving the GOP control of the House is a good thing, then go ahead and support this stunt. Without 20 GOP Senate vote, there are many moderate democrats in swing districts who will not support this stunt which is why Speaker Pelosi lack the votes

Pelosi’s majority includes 31 members who represent districts Trump carried in 2016 and could face electoral danger. Impeachment might accomplish little more than energizing Trump 2020 voters.

Close Pelosi allies insist she couldn’t gain majority support for impeachment even if she tried, not to mention the two-thirds of a Republican-run Senate needed for conviction and removal from office. “There will never be 218 in the House,” a leadership aide told me.....

The votes aren’t there. The 31 Democrats who represent districts that Donald Trump won in 2016 can see that impeachment is not popular with voters in general. If these nearly three dozen Democrats want to win second terms and keep the House in Democratic hands, they feel the need to stay far away from impeachment.

Blaming Pelosi is both easy, and it displays a fundamental ignorance of the dynamics of this Democratic House majority.

Robert Mueller’s testimony was an important step, but unless public opinion changes and a whole bunch of House Democrats change their minds, impeachment won’t happen in the House before the 2020 election.

I trust Speaker Pelosi and I do not want to give the GOP control of the House

It's a constitutional remedy to remove a corrupt individual from high office. If we don't fight back by using every process at our disposal we'll enable the corrupt Rethugs and kiss the future of the United States goodbye!

Impeachment in the House will not remove him. The Senate would have to convict and they won’t. Furthermore, the house isn’t even close to having the votes to pass impeachment. If impeachment is attempted it would fail and that would give Trump more ammo to claim that’s he’s exonerated (once again). Energy should be put into the 2020 elections.

If impeachment is not called for here and now it is never going to be called for , might as well take it out of play permanently....if he gets away with this shit the next time around will be harder yet.

He will spin it and lie till he is blue in the face, saying the Dems COULD NOT impeach him because he did nothing wrong.
