https://www.rawstory.com/2019/07/meghan-mccain-fears-trumps-racist-attacks-are-hurting-young-conservatives-im-concerned-about-the-next-generation/Young people that are interested in conservative ideals only see this, she said. They only see race-baiting, and only the Trump administration, and what Republicans should be most concerned about right now, well, from my perspective, is what comes next, because we will be out of power. All politics is cyclical, and youre going to have a bunch of millennials who think the entire Republican Party is the person in charge, that thinks all communities of color are infested.'
I would dare to speculate that she's a bit late.
Sure. Trump has instituted policies that specifically hurt latino immigrants, he has derided black communities and balck countries as infested shitholes and he has told jewish US-citizens that he believes their loyalty really lies with the state of Israel.
But that's not who the GOP is!
Before that came the Obama-administration with republican birtherism and constant attempts to otherize him. Who can forget the "terrorist fistbump?"
But that's not who the GOP is!
Before that came the George W. Bush-administration with their lies, with their bombings of foreign civilians, with their war-crimes, with torture and kidnappings. And the second-biggest economic crash in modern history.
But that's not who the GOP is!
Before that came the Reagan-administration, which started the War on Drugs and ensured that people using crack cocaine (black people) get a harsher sentence than people using powder cocaine (white people).
But that's not who the GOP is!
Before that came the Southern Strategy of Nixon, where the GOP intentionally embraced racism to mobilize voters in the southern US-states.
Oh, those stupid kids.
Why can't they understand that the GOP is the party of fiscal responsibility, the party of stable foreign-policy, the moral party that doesn't look kindly upon people who engage in sexual escapades and use bad words.
The party that preaches christian values and that can be trusted to treat immigrants like the Old Testament says and to treat their fellow people like the New Testament says.

(2,895 posts)<<That Time Republicans Used Racism to Defeat McCain's Presidential Bid
by Juan Cole
...In 2000, the McCains campaigned in South Carolina with their children, including Bridget. So Bushs mastermind, Karl Rove, came up with the idea of robo-calling voters and calling into talk radio, asking the question, If you knew McCain had an illegitimate child with a Black woman, would that affect how you felt about him? The Republican Party in South Carolina is solidly white, although the state is 1/3 African-American, and what they were pleased to call miscegenation had been a crime in South Carolina until the late 1960s.
Because people had seen Bridget at the rallies, Roves smear was widely believed, and it contributed to McCains loss in the GOP primary. Bush winning South Carolina cemented his standing as a front runner.
No racism and bigotry, no Bush presidency. (McCain handily won South Carolina in 2008 when Rove was not calling the shots any more). Now you could say that Rove was behind all this and W. may not have backed it. But Bush never denounced Rove or dissociated himself from these tactics. The buck stops with him....>>
And then your dad pulled a Ted Cruz and prostrated himself before the guy heading the campaign that attacked his family. A real profile in courage.

(14,174 posts)That character, if you remember, before the Gilead coup took place, when it was in its beginning stages, maybe like we are fast approaching now, she assumed that just because she was helping, even writing some of the policy giving men the final say in important matters etc..that she'd be fine. That was the way it should be. And so carried water for the rulers even when she started thinking there were problems with their paternalistic rule. Couldn't admit she was wrong. That it was not just one or two leaders it was the problem, but the entire fascist structure that she helped create.
But I'm probably giving Meghan too much credit.

Your Republican Party has done everything they can to steal the votes from gerrymandering and voter suppression to going after and accepting Russian invasions of our voting systems,
Your party is the one who has fought against human rights, health coverage, raising the minimum wage and taking care of American children in poverty.
The American youth are seeing what the Republican Party has been working so hard to become. You dont like it because deep in your heart you are a modern Republican. You are also the end result of decades of hard work.

Makes me sick when people say "Oh, well, we survived Reagan, we'll survive this." You know who didn't survive Reagan? Lots and lots of gay people.
