PoliticoDemocratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.) was set to make an unplanned trip to Washington from her district Monday amid an outcry from top black and Latino lawmakers over a lack of diversity in the campaign arm's senior management ranks.
Bustos sudden return to D.C., just days after Congress left for a six-week-long August recess, comes as aides and lawmakers are calling for systematic changes to the DCCC, the partys main election organ.
POLITICO reported last week that black and Hispanic lawmakers are furious with Bustos stewardship of the campaign arm. They say the upper echelon of the DCCC is bereft of diversity, and it is not doing enough to reach Latino voters and hire consultants of color. In addition, several of Bustos senior aides have left in the first six months of her tenure, including her chief of staff a black woman and her director of mail and polling director, both women.

(94,602 posts)I'll probably contribute about $10,000, and if there's a problem with the management of the Committee that can affect how that money is spent, I want to know about it.

(58,785 posts)(including click-bait headlines I would have trashed) instead of using your contacts to learn and pass honest information on?
We make modest recurring auto-donations each month to the DCCC and DSCC, and I'm fine with the different factions using their group power to influence policy. Overall, large majorities of our political caucuses are strongly united against an enormous political threat, including the DCBC.
I'm NOT fine with people pushing anti-Democratic Party messages about how WE are having racial problems -- the usual "no difference," false equivalence meme meant to persuade low-information and low-conviction citizens to believe they have no good choice to vote for.
FOR shame.

(94,602 posts)I post news -- good or bad -- about politics and the State of the Party. There's a diversity problem at the DCCC if minority Democratic House members SAY there's a diversity problem, and if the Executive Director quits abruptly, that tend to confirm the story.
I'd rather deal with reality, rather than enclose myself in a bubble of positive stories.

(58,785 posts)pointing out, based on your extensive knowledge of the party, that the "complete chaos" spin is effectively a massive lie, backing that up by picking up the phone and chatting with first-person sources.
Or better yet, NOT posting click-bait headlines and the articles they lead into at all and posting that first-person information instead?
Every member of the DCBC is also a member of either -- or both -- the New Democrats and the Progressive caucuses. Are our black members also throwing those caucuses into "chaos"? Inquiring mind wants to know.
If our party is the one being torn apart by racial "complete chaos," unlike the segregated and united white man's party, is it going down and will this be for the first, second, or third and last time?

(35,454 posts)2. It's going to take more than the DCCC to reach Latino voters, 47% of whom voted for the traitor. And Frankly, what's happening at the border should be incentive enough.
3. They do need to hire consultants of color if that is lacking. Let me suggest Tara Daldell for starters.

(94,602 posts)She announced her departure at all-staff meeting on Monday. Politico first reported the news, which a DCCC source confirmed to CQ Roll Call. DCCC leadership had come under fire from some lawmakers for not including more diverse staffers among its top brass.
DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos had flown back to Washington, D.C., to meet with committee staff on Monday.
Jaslow was close to Bustos, having served as chief of staff in her House office and having worked on her first campaign in 2012. An Iraq veteran, Jaslow was the executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America before coming to the DCCC.
Texas Reps. Vicente Gonzalez and Filemon Vela had called for Jaslow to step down over the weekend.
Smooth saiing?

(12,618 posts)The democrats could win an election 99% to 1%, and Politico would still say the Democrats are in turmoil.

(12,618 posts)But these kinds of things are common on campaigns. It doesn't mean that they are in total turmoil. That's just spin. They say the same thing every election cycle.

An attempt to stir things up? Or a political blog reporting stories about politics?

(94,602 posts)Remember the blacklist of companies working for candidates challenging incumbents? Remember Bustos planning to go to a fundraiser for Lipinski?
But apparently when staff and others do the same, reporting on it shows bias?
