Donald Trump well remembers the race riots that followed the assassination of MLK. Some cities never recovered. By painting targets on African America leaders like Elijah Cummings, and this morning, Al Sharpton, it is ever clearer that he is looking for a match that will set our cities ablaze. He wants ride in on a white horse to restore (new) order.
EDIT: I posted this on July 29. I stand by it. Trump wants mass violence by Whites, Blacks, Latinos - anyone who will take his bait.

What is the issue today?
I think your ideas have no basis in reality.

(4,516 posts)The "riots" happened before and after Dr King was assassinated.

If so you should delete this thread.

Things like setting cars and barricades alight can start wider fires. If you want me to say African American men are more violent than other people around the world in desperate, incendary situations, I will not.

(7,277 posts)This OP was about trump's motivations for his increasingly horrible stuff. It's hard to believe he wants cities to burn, but I don't think he would be 'all that unhappy' at the prospect. (I've added a question mark which might make it clearer I am not making predictions. Only a psychopath would want such a thing to happen. I was alive in 1968: MLK, the riots, RFK, Tet offensive, Nixon, worst year ever)

(22,143 posts)occurred recently ...and it was a terrible thing for all involved. This will not happen again (we hope that it won't, a lot of us are working to ensure that it doesn't). Cooler heads ultimately prevailed over all and the situation calmed down significantly, and better yet, legislative changes occurred in the Ferguson that perhaps promise better representation to those communities and so forth.
If people think a scumbag can say something that incites people to do things such as rioting and such, they're wrong. Cooler heads will prevail.
Every city has its fair share of issues, every city. It's unfair to pick on the larger cities.

(25,183 posts)Riots in the cities started in 1965, and continued on until after the ones following MLK's death. While his murder was on the minds of the rioters in 1968, that wasn't the case from 1965-1967, when Dr. King was trying to stop the riots.

(32,086 posts)Everything he does is to keep his base motivated, and to further the cheating that got him into office in the first place. He knows he's screwed once he leaves office, so he's doing everything he can to make sure he doesn't ever leave. If it means starting a race war and burning down American cities in the process, he won't think twice about it. These attacks on minorities are just a distraction from things like impeachment, and the reports that the economy is a house of cards.

(32,086 posts)You state that his goal is to burn down American cities. I'm saying that is just a means to another end--as in his staying out of prison.

(14,492 posts)When ReThugs want to defund something, they always start with a blitz of derogatory criticisms and lies about that program, just like they do with all Federal welfare programs.
Look for further budget cuts in housing and urban renewal, for example......
When tRump says things about Rep. Cummings suggesting he has not worked for his district, someone needs to look him square in the eye and ask "what have you done for that district?".

I agree that we should somehow pressure the MSM to stop giving credence to any government posts on social media. Who would have dreamed 10-years ago that these cute little phone aps like Facebook and Twitter could wind up being a substantial part of our society's downfall?

Now they're running the White House and they're angrier than that ever.
