And the female expert in this segment says she believes it's from gigantic amounts of fertilizer runoff in the water due to erosion from the rainforest deforestation.

A number of things are pointing to.....

we'll actually see some action on climate change.

If it's not already too late.

and the Sargassum seaweed was everywhere. It has inundated most of our beaches - east, west, north and south.

There were bags and bags that the workers had raked up before we got there and it was still coming. We chilled out under a tree drinking beer and having a good time but very few folks were in the water. About three hours later we headed to a restaurant overlooking the sea about two miles down the coast and the effin' seaweed lined that beach as well.

The good news is that it is harmless to humans but it sure messes up the lives of sea creatures, reefs etc. and the smell -yuck!
The tourist industry across the region is suffering from this big time

The article says that the sorgassum is blooming March to September now... but we saw the beach covered with it and the trucks hauling it off each day even in the middle of winter. This is what enrages me about the issue of climate change more than any other. These asshole rednecks can say "if you don't like America, get out" all they want but there is nowhere on the planet to escape their policies of corporate greed and environmental destruction.

I don't reside in Washington State; nonetheless, I'm particularly fond of Gov. Jay Inslee and his strong stance/activity on climate.

I googled around and found out that sargassum is good at absorbing heavy metals. That's the good news: it is actually cleaning the ocean. The bad news is we need to figure out how to deal with it once it washes up on the beach.

They can't bury it beneath the beaches which is illegal. It's a mind boggling mess.

No one has studied what happens to the heavy metals. Meanwhile, some people are making bricks out of the sargassum and building houses with them!
