I need help. We have come up with the hashtag #DCSitInSept6 Go Fund Me.com/DCSitInSept6 facebook page is coming up.
This is our moment. They are consolidating power and Marches, while inspiring, don't move the needle. It's time to let them know this is a government BY the People and the only way they can know this if we are in their faces.
The idea is to bring one million people into the Capitol on Labor Day, the people's day to greet Congress on their return from recess on Sept 7. Then in John Lewis fashion we stay. We sit. We lobby. Of course, the crowd would have to rotate to keep it sustained at several hundred thousand for the weeks it might take.
So far I've reached out to AOC, Ted Lieu, Bette Midler, Cher, David Hogg, Morgan Freeman, Maddow and some others I can't remember in the moment. So far, crickets.
We have 6 weeks until Congress returns and time is really of the essence. The UN report states we have 18 months to keep global warming at it's current level, after that; it's the highway to Hell. I researched and here's my column on the results

this is the most important take away.
In 1972, MIT programmed a computer model of our then current American lifestyle that has spread around the globe; it predicted the total collapse of planetary civilization by 2040. The model says we are on track; but, physical evidence points to a more rapid decline.
The climate crisis rages worldwide with ever hotter, longer droughts and fires, floods surpassing the 100 year mark time and time again; the worlds population continues to burgeon having doubled since 1970 to our current 7.7 billion people.
A 1960s experiment with overcrowded mice showed two things: one; they stopped reproducing and two; they became cannibals. Without radical change (which doesnt seem likely) we are dooming our children to very ugly deaths within the next 20 years.
Those of you on twitter, please help trend #DCSitInSept6
So, let me know what you think. Do you care? Am I just being overly something or other? Do we have the will?
Some of the things needed right now are posters for print and social media, social media influencers, organizers, money for permits and all the other things something like this will require. I met a woman who's working on the permits now. We can do this, if we do this.

(62,444 posts)Thats almost as bullshit-laden a proposition as the fairy tale about an MIT computer predicting the future in 1970.
This reminds me of the Enough is enough performance art back in 2016.
Anyone remember that horseshit? https://www.democraticunderground.com/1251770162
No, you are not getting a permit for an assembly of a million people in the Capitol.

You want to have a sit-in on the 6th, to greet the returning Congress on the 7th, on Labor Day which is the 2nd.
If you are soliciting funds for this, then you might want to answer basic questions, like, how much does a permit for a million person sit-in at the Capitol normally cost. Or, perhaps look at a calendar.
WhiteTara
(29,718 posts)I read the calendar wrong F F F* okay. Yes, the woman whose name is meaningless to you works in this dept. But the date is the stupid part! Thanks
I didnt ask you her name. I asked you what is her experience, since you just met her.
She doesnt know when Labor Day is either?

(62,444 posts)Seems a little counter-reproductive, though.
Hope the permit lady gets the dates right!

But don't give up.

(18,486 posts)Organizing a Lobby Day for 30 people is complicated enough. Organizing a million person protest at the Capitol - or anywhere else - is undoable on your own.
Don:t try to do this. Find out who is already organizing protests and join their effort. It will be more effective and much less frustrating and disappointing for you.

(29,718 posts)The interest in DOING is nil. Talk is rampant, action is scarce. We are doomed. I truly believe that.
