Since the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook, the backpacks have become a demand for parents during back to school shopping.
The backpacks were found for sale for $119.00 at Office Max in Jacksonville.

How would a bulletproof backpack "enable a criminal to do more activity"? Sounds like some schools are looking at not allowing bulletproof backpacks. Makes no sense.
Edit to add - I guess what they mean is that a shooter could somehow figure out which book bags are bulletproof and use them to protect themselves. Seems somewhat farfetched to me.

(14,532 posts)they don't believe a person, hell bent on shooting up a school, wouldn't buy a backpack for themselves? After spending big bucks on guns and ammo, they wouldn't spend $100 on a bulletproof backpack? They'd run around in the school looking for a kid with one to steal for their protection?

(31,261 posts)can use a backpack to ward off bullets from an AR15? My god!!!!! The guy is right that the backpacks will cause criminals to act. If a nut is going to shoot up a school and knew many kids carried bulletproof backpacks, he (it always has been HE) would likely show up with something that blasts away at an area, like an AR, or a high capacity pistol, or a streetsweeper. The backpacks will only insure that kids are slaughtered if a nut gets in to them.

What might appear to be more innocent and no threat than somebody wearing a backpack?

(31,261 posts)Maybe they are good for SWAT Police that are loaded up with tactical clothing and already have on a bulletproof vest. But for kids, how can something that shields roughly half the body protect a child? A person that have an assault rifle or pistol does not have to be an excellent shot to kill someone. The luckiest things for kids facing a mobster is that the killer does not know how to quickly unjam an assault weapon.
All bulletproof backpacks will insure is that dead kids are found riddled with bullets.

(31,261 posts)Town and cities are better off hardening school Windows, doors, walls and desks, but of course that costs money, so kids are sent out with something that provides zero protection for them.
