Was at an outdoor concert of a really cool Celtic / Latin fusion band from Vancouver BC in a neighboring town. My expectation (naive, I guess?) was that everyone there was a leftie!
I saw lots of old friends and colleagues. For some reason I honed in a woman sitting near me who I had worked with 30 years ago at a state agency for the elderly. We had been acquaintances since. She seemed to be cuddling with her female friend. After one exuberant song I went over to her on the way back to my seat and told her that in my exuberance I jumped up and down and said "FUCK TRUMP."
Well....I really royally screwed up. She looked at me and said, "I don't feel like that. At least we are moving forward."
I realized my gigantic misinterpretation and just walked off sheepishly. Later I saw her and her friend each with their male partners, sitting together.
Hope I learned my lesson!
Anyway, this band is so lively and joyous, by the end of the concert at least half in attendance were on their feet in front of the stage dancing our asses off. Not only was this group not up there, they weren't even bobbing their hands, clapping, or moving to the music in any way, shape or form! The last song was dedicated (and written) by the band to honor those who pick our fruits and vegetables....i.e., migrant farm workers.
I feel nauseous about the whole thing today.
Check out the band. https://www.paperboys.com/index/

(42,641 posts)does she mean "moving forward" to fascism?
I have called many Trump voters white supremacists this year. And I will continue to do so every time I hear a pro-Trump comment, or Trump like comment.

As for your former, "friend". Screw her.

(24,736 posts)so much, Bayard.
Yes, enjoy! They are fabulous!
I noticed a very interesting dynamic at the concert last night. While they always have been able to get the crowds going with their joyous music, it was more intense last night. Like we were starved for something.
They do a version of "All Along the Watchtower" that is epic. I just read the lyrics closely. I'm quite certain they sense the impending doom I am feeling. I feel close to panic about national / world politics right now.

(53,410 posts)My first thought in response is moving forward into Fascism, but I probably would have done what you did and go enjoy the concert. They shouldnt be able to ruin everything!

(11,631 posts)You probably introduced political opinion in a place it wasn't really called for... not an uncommon or inexcusable mistake in this emotionally exhausting political climate... this other woman stood up for racism, sexism, environmental destruction, institutional child abuse, the deliberate annihilation of democratic rule of law, et.al... and described it as "moving forward"... gee who is guilty of the bigger faux pas?

(63,221 posts)Is she brain damaged? In what way are we "moving forward" unless she thinks that fascism is the way forward. Anyone who approves of the job that Trump is doing is a horrible, hateful person and if I had offended them, I would have considered it a victory.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.
