Can not wait for the day when I do not have to think, tweet or worry about having a President who degrades our once universally respected nation.

That's when he leaves for good, if he isn't impeached & removed first. If he doesn't leave willingly when he's told, I will be one of the peasants storming the White House to carry his carcass out bodily.

My BFF and I talk about this all the time. Remember when we did not think about the President for weeks at a time and when we saw a photo of him we smiled?

Seems like a century ago.

We should be able to go about our business, secure in the knowledge the President is not actively undermining our country. This is not our current situation.

But the country can get it back IF, and that's a big IF, you can get him to leave office after next election.

Every time I've travelled outside our undereducated industrial nation — and going back 50 years – I've had to explain the US policy of giving tax breaks to oil companies and funding dictators who often sell our weapons to our enemies. They all ask: "WHY ARE YOU AMERICANS SO STUPID? AND WHY DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT POLITICS? YOU LEAVE YOUR POLITICAL DISCUSSIONS FOR A TINY MINORITY AND LET THEM WALK ALL OVER YOU."

And speaking the truth should only upset those who are not interested in facts. We're on the same page about our disgust for Trump and I've been calling my House rep to get serious and join the movement for impeachment.

I have no qualms about Reiner. Just not sure we are as respected as we were when we beat the Germans during WWII (with Russia's and other's help). The US has certainly been giving tax breaks to the oil industry for a long time. Trump has been following a long tradition (which doesn't make it any better and we're now seeing record-breaking heat waves due to such greenhouse gases:

https://psmag.com/economics/tax-bill-oil-company-bonanza

And we DO support 73% of the world's dictators:

https://truthout.org/articles/us-provides-military-assistance-to-73-percent-of-world-s-dictatorships/

Now, friend, you can attack me, or you can address the reality. Attacking me will not achieve much.

They know the stats on all of that, but haven't thought about the Bill of Rights or defending freedom or democracy in 40 years.

Their life is about buying things, trinket capitalism. We have forgotten the lessons of the Cold War because our politicians bought into the collapse of Communism. Once Reagan said "Berlin Wall" the imagery sterilized their minds. Real Politik is not about Jesus and gun rights. Nations defend with armies, national guard, well-regulated militia - not Rambo wannabes. We have become weak, flaccid, an underbelly of paralyzed mental goo. I'd say "The Russians Are Coming" but they don't need to. Trump's got their back real good.

The decadence sets in and won't be dispelled by words and branding alone. The US got on board the New Deal and the GI Bill only AFTER the Great Depression and WWII (and everyone benefitted by such policies it needs to be said repeatedly). Obama's idealism and health care reforms were embraced AFTER the Republican Recession of 2008 which woke people up (and, it must be said repeatedly, we have benefitted with years of growth and millions more with insurance).

So we wait for the Trump collapse of 2020. Impeachment hearings will help to draw attention to our current decadence, money gathering among the 1%, a build up of swamp monsters, the environment neglected and the public distracted by conmen and conwomen, etc.

But the economic collapse will, unfortunately, be the best catalyst for a massive blue wave. I hope we democrats will elect folks like FDR in the primaries so we'll be ready with deep structural change policies when our time comes.

Many of the candidates are thinking deeper now and less "Republican lite" thank the stars. Warren, I believe, has a track record of serious economic research to back her up. We need that kind of grit when the collapse comes.
