We love America in the present despite things that can be fixed and we love America in the future, knowing that tomorrow will be even better than today.
Trump and his base, they're not in love with America as it is... they love the imagined America in their heads that exists in their heads, it's like when Roy Moore himself said America was great before the civil war (Even though, also in his words, we had slavery).
To the Trump cult, present-day America is a failure, it can only be loved as it was in the past and how it existed according to them, and maybe the future America can be a simulation of that past America.
You know, it's funny... if you're in a relationship and you can only be happy when you look at the past (Bonus points if it's a fabricated past) rather than getting joy from the present and hope from the future, then you shouldn't be in that relationship. That applies to work, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, etc. If you're not happy in that relationship, then you can leave. Because, if you're dwelling on the past rather than living for the present and the future, then that's not love.
