Nancy Pelosi spoke at the Young Democrats convention. Here are the top takeaways.
The crowd of 800 roared when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took the stage Friday at the Young Democrats of Americas national convention in Indianapolis.
Pelosi spoke for about 20 minutes, drawing standing ovations multiple times, including for the Houses likely futile passage of a $15 minimum wage bill, defending abortion rights, for saying Democrats would hold President Donald Trump accountable and for saying Democrats would sweep the House, Senate and White House in the 2020 elections. ...
Pelosi pointed out this year is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, saying President John Kennedy wanted the United States to be the first country to do so.
She suggested that many of the parents of the conferences attendees probably werent born then.
But where was she going with this?
Thats what the Democratic Party is about, she said, resolve. Honoring the vision of our founders. Honoring the possibility of the future.

I have never seen such a generation that respect their elders, even listen to what they say.
Makes me really proud because I have a Grandson who agrees with me. His Dad votes Democrat but blames both parties for the mess of the country. I disagree. But respectful he is.

(25,111 posts)It's being implanted into the USA's psychic. To me that is a plus.
Defeatism projection is the Republican way being thrusted upon the USA's citizens. It ain't gonna work.

(15,624 posts)To students at universities, young adults working minimum wage jobs, etc. and not just a group of die hard Yellow Dog Young Democrats. She might get a clearer picture of what would inspire young voters to get to the polls and vote.
If she really wanted to know what young voters think, she'd go on a cross country tour with the "Squad"...she'd probably get way more than 800 people at each stop...
She might get fewer standing ovations though...
Bottom line: if young voter turnout increases significantly in 2020, we WILL win.

(17,986 posts)It makes me hopeful that we have such brilliant young people.
The nedia is trying to turn the young Congress people into a Tea Party! I heard that this morning by one pundit. Tea Partiers want to tear down, this young group wants to build. It scares the tired, old ,angry fogies to death.
I used to visit my Grandparents neighbors, listen to their stories, sit on their porches. It was a great learning experience.

(42,334 posts)I heard similar this morning. We need young people to be engaged in the process, so they understand how the political system works.
I appreciate that some of them are happy to listen to us old timers!

(15,624 posts)We know that 100% of the 800 Young Democrats are going to vote; it's the rest of the 18-24 year olds we need to get motivated .
