I box in my right wing brother on Global Warming

My oldest brother texted me that global climate change has always happened, whether nan has been here or not. He also claimed NASA predicts global COOLING. I looked that up and saw a bunch of artcles saying NASA recorded global cooling 2016-2018. However, after some searching, I found out the earth cooled for ten years because it followed a very strong el Nino in 2015, which shattered all records. I texted that to him, and he texted that he will take my word for it. He then said that man has little to do with it, since climate change happens “all the time”. I then told him I did a 10 page research paper on the subject in 1994. My conclusion at the time was that the climatologists predicted temps rising, and we should wait 10 years or so to see if their prediction would come true, and temps DID rise like they said, so I now believed them. He then said that global warming will not bring about any bad things, so we should not worry. He lives in Charleston, SC. I told him one effect of global warming is rising sea levels, and port cities would be the first ones affected. He then said “man will adapt. Bring it on!”
It seems Rubepublicans are only interested in “owning libs”, facts be damned! And if someone disproves their point, move the goalposts! Win the argument at all costs, facts be damned!

shift towards grasping reality once in awhile. Are their egos so small they can't admit their continuous stupidity?

I know this is your brother, but with an attitude like that... Well, it's extremely difficult to have any sympathy.

of a long term trend.

Maybe he'll get it as more famines cause more displacement of populations and more refugees showing up at our borders.

is that yes, I agree the earth has always gone through these cycles. The big difference now is those past cycles occurred over millions of years, allowing enough time for living organisms to adapt and evolve. This warming cycle began in the late 1800s with the dawn of the industrial revolution. 200 years is just not enough time for us to adapt to the problems the warming causes. Of course, then my relatives will say something even more idiotic, like "evolution isn't real, I didn't descend from an ape". That's the mindset. Its hard to argue with someone who probably failed 9th grade biology.

6. Sadly, it really is all about "owning the libs," no matter the cost.

Other than the goodies sent upstream to the 1%, what great Republican initiatives have made average Americans stronger, safer, wealthier, happier? NONE, because they have no idea what to do.

Republicans STILL have no healthcare plan. Cabinet posts and agency heads have been filled with the worst far-right ideologues, or have remained vacant.

The entire U.S. in now like the Kansas in the 2004 landmark book, “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” Infrastructure is completely falling apart, massive potholes in the streets, vacant storefronts, schools with no supplies to teach, etc., all because voters kept voting for their beliefs, and not their own self-interest.

So “owning the libs” IS the nihilistic goal that Republicans will aim for. It brings out the worst in the worst people. It’s insane.

It already floods pretty badly and could be permanently under water within the not to distant future.

Sadly, people like your brother are being misled by an evil intersection of money, politics and right wing media. They have no idea what they are in for.
