Sincere question Re: Israel and The United States

Why do I keep hearing the phrase "They hate Israel and they hate the United States"? You never hear anyone letting another country share an "and" with The United States in this way. Why is patriotism even connected to one's love or hate for Israel, or any other country?

They think it will rile up the pseudo-patriot base and also appeal to Jewish voters.

Don't read anything more into it than that.

There is also the hope it will stir up anti-Semitism on the left so they can point and say "See?! SEE!", all the while they ignore the anti-Semitism in their own camp, coming directly from the top.

Batya Ungar-Sargon: Why does Trump keep dragging Jews into his attacks?

Every Jew I know — whether Democrat or Republican — was horrified to read the tweets issued by President Donald Trump on Sunday morning. Somehow finding a new low to sink to, Trump suggested that Democratic Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, all women of color, should “go back” to where they “originally” came from. (Three of them, of course, came from the same place where Trump did: the United States.)

And then it got worse: He connected his racist rant to Israel.

“When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President,” he raged at 6:45 Monday morning. “I can tell you that they have made Israel feel abandoned by the U.S.” (He has since mentioned Israel in the context of his targets’ alleged hatred for it eight more times.)

The claim that Israel feels abandoned is, of course, nonsense; the people of Israel haven’t the faintest idea who Ilhan Omar is. But roping Israel into his rant wasn’t random; it was Trump’s intended endgame from the get-go, and just the latest reminder for Jews that our concerns — and our existence — have been reduced to a rhetorical tool in a larger political battle.

Trump, who has a knack for ferreting out other people’s vulnerabilities and pressing on them, spotted what must have looked like an unmissable opportunity in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent feud with the four congresswomen, known as “the Squad.” And he kept at it: First, he tried to enlist Pelosi in the ugly suggestion that the four congresswomen “go back”: “I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!” Then, when Democrats (including Pelosi herself) predictably rallied behind Trump’s targets, he made that part of his attack: “So sad to see the Democrats sticking up for people who speak so badly of our Country.”

If you don't support Likud's policies towards the Palestinians, you hate Jews and you don't want Christ to return and Rapture all the believers, blah blah blah.

If I understand the Left Behind series, the existence of Israel is crucial for devout Christians to be raptured. Otherwise, they wouldn't give a fuck about Israel. And they already don't give a fuck about Jews, other than hating them.

Plus, they believe that Israel is the bulwark against the Islamic world. Putting aside the likelihood that Israel has nuclear capability, it has a population of 8.7 million. The Muslim countries surrounding Israel? 330 million (well, at least according to a website I found). At the same time, Israel is the largest recipient of US military aid and US loan guarantees. So it has historically been very much an intertwined relationship, and maybe justifiably in the aftermath of WWII and into the 1970s and beyond. The evolution of Israel into more of RW state more akin to Trump's liking has complicated things over the past decade or so.

into their 2020 campaign rhetoric. Lindsey Graham trotted it out the other day on Fox and said it several times. I realised then they’re going to hammer this one home.
