I Can Only Conclude That The Repugs Have The 2020 Election Wrapped Up.....

They must feel like they are going to maintain and grow their power base. They must know that all the parts are in place to suppress, steal and cheat to win in 2020. Otherwise I just don't understand their actions to continually circle the wagons around Trump and be satisfied with being called 'racists'.

Continually supporting Trump and all of his criminal actions makes no sense otherwise. Why would they commit political suicide and go down with this criminal?

So given all of what we've encountered with Trump since he came down that escalator - the only conclusion I can draw is that the Repugs feel that 2020 is in the bag for them.

Please challenge me on this if you feel differently.

They are making this election about how Black and Brown people are destroying American and all true Aryans, must unite to defeat their impending doom.

It isn't about strength but about stoking fear, which is what activates their base. Fear of change. Fear of losing social dominance and advantage. The Republican base will vote itself to hell if there are people there they can look down on.

I mulled this over as well. My honest opinion is that a lot of "thinking" Repubs (there's got to be one or two) know that the party is destined to failure. Simple demographics tell them that .. even if their policies and positions weren't total crap. They are playing the race card now as never before, because they basically don't HAVE any other cards (although "deregulation" might play in some quarters .. for a while). My opinion is that a lot of them are fully cognizant of riding the ship down .. and they are looking to "fix" as much sh** as they can before they inevitably slip beneath the waves. Thus you have judicial appointments (priority #1), voter suppression, gerrymander, deregulation, and as much tax cuts, privatization and deconstruction of government agency as they can manage while they still have the votes. Once they have fallen, they will seamlessly slip into the party of opposition .. and feed us a steady diet of how foolish, inept and unpatriotic the Dems are as they valiantly attempt to staunch the bleeding and right the ship. Sure it's cynical .. but did you really imagine any of your Republican friends as launching the lifeboats?

I just hope that the investigations being done by the committees continue, so if the Democrats win, there is a new Attorney General, and a chance for some kind of justice.

You are assuming that they are all looking big picture about who controls the government. In reality I think they care mostly about "how do I get reelected"... most republicans in the House are from gerrymandered districts where their only threat of losing is from being primaried for not being far enough up Trump's ass. Even in the Senate, most red states are not going to elect a democrat and these assholes know it. Someone showed Lindsay Graham and Susan Collins how much of their base loves Trump no mater what stupid racist misogynist shit he does and all fight went out of them.... and when they showed Paul Ryan he said fuck this I quit.

He knew the fix was in, however the Dems just over performed and countered their election shenanigans.

However, in 2016 we were just unable to do the same due to too many people staying home and or throwing their vote away on Stein or other protest votes because of course Hillary in a landslide.

I think 2012 and 2018 will be the model more than 2016.

I was working in Ohio in the week before Election Day, and I could see the sloppy GOTV effort the Democrats were making.

As vot vote flipping, isn't it amazing that voting machines in Ohio could be rigged in 2004, but not 2006, 2008 or 2012? Isn't it amazing that no candidate, Party Leader or Campaign Manager says that's why they lost?

The first step towards winning in 2020 is understanding the political realities of the electorate, and planning accordingly.

paperless electronic voting machines are being and have been hijacked. There is no justification for their existence. They know they can get away with 2-4% tamperage without being detected. The Dems just over performed this in 2012. (No one can persuade me otherwise)

BUT yes yes yes, organization and understanding the electorate is the key. We had this in 2018!!

Trump's simple world view is that he won with his base voters in 2016, so all he has to do is repeat the formula. It's misguided and simplistic because it doesn't take into account the Democratic wins in 2018 that show his rust belt States firewall isn't there.

They've boxed themselves in with the loonier segment of their base, and they're losing some of their reasonable base to a few factors: Their own looniness, disenchantment with some of the less savory aspects of their program, and the simple operation of mortality tables.

The returns on their red meat platform and program have diminished significantly, and they're hoping for one last hurrah in 2020. Clearly, the 2018 mid-term results didn't jar them out of their rut, and they're sticking to the script, lest they alienate the loonies. Republicans are in for a real munching in a general election. If it doesn't happen in 2020 (I think it will), it will happen in 2024. My reading of their strategy (such as it is) is to lose an election by shattering numbers so they can do a party reorganization and try to cobble together a coalition that isn't so reliant on the loonies.

They can't defy Trump lest they get primaried, then they do lose their seat for certain. Those in cushy red states and districts can count on being reelected. Those that are not, they look at them and say "sucks to be you". They don't care if they are in a minority, all they care about is keeping their job. God forbid if they have to come up with ideas and actually work.

Being in the minority is easier for them, all they have to do is be against everything. After Trump, they know they can't count on the Presidency, but they aren't interested in leading. Just collecting their pay check and speaking fees.

I think the GOP knows exactly how screwed they are. The crash that's about to happen is going to hit no later than 2021, and it's going to make 2007 look like a moderate correction. They're also stuck with the reality that their president is the most corrupt president in the history of the Republic and is the 17th most corrupt man alive, and the 16 ahead of him are his vice-president and his entire cabinet.

Hence, the only thing they can possibly do to save their asses is to prop up the economy for another 18 months, throw the election and blame the disaster they caused on the Democrats.
