GOP lawmaker: 'I'm a person of color. I'm white.'

Republican Rep. Mike Kelly (Pa.) on Tuesday weighed in on criticism of President Trump's tweets targeting four minority congresswomen, saying that he is a person of color because he is white.

“You know, they talk about people of color. I'm a person of color. I'm white. I'm an Anglo Saxon. People say things all the time, but I don't get offended,” Kelly told Vice News before a vote on a resolution condemning the president.

Kelly told The Hill that the comment had been taken out of context.
“The reporter’s tweet mischaracterized our conversation and my broader point: We’re all created equal. It’s time to stop fixating on our differences and focus on what unites us,” he said

The term "person of color" is widely used in the U.S. to refer to anyone who is not white or of European descent.

I don't buy that he actually thinks "We're all created equal"...I'll bet he focuses on differences every time he runs for political office...

well, mostly, Dutch, English, Irish, Native American (Cherokee and Blackfoot)

No one, ever in my lifetime, has ever told me to go back to where I came from.

No one has ever told me that the rental unit I wanted to apply for was "already rented" (in fact, some places that I applied for were rented to me over earlier applicants of color).

No one has ever followed me around while I was shopping for fear I would steal something.

In fact, the only "discrimination" I have experienced was when I went to visit relatives in Arizona and had my car keyed and tire slashed in the parking lot of a Walmart... presumably because of my Obama / Biden bumper sticker and California license plate.

What they don’t get or what they don’t want others to get is that created equal and treated equal aren’t the same thing!

The joke on that side of the family was always that we weren't considered "white people". Think about it. No one ever refers to Franco Harris as half black/half white, it's always half black/half Italian.
