Is that a magic spell or something?

(17,984 posts)Ergo, we must point out their racism every single time. It's like "hate the word, but not the deed." We must make them own the word and associate it with the deed even if they think it's uncivil of us.

(11,746 posts)They want to be "free" to express their racism without being called a racist. That is, of course, the real meaning of "political correctness."
there are no bones in the brain. On the other hand bones don't think and form words. That is the brain's job. Oh!!!! Now, I see his problem - his brain is too small to understand compassion and empathy.

(5,325 posts)And their pasts are full of racist actions. But their bones don't think or carry out actions. So in a sense, their bones may be the only part of them that might not be racist.

(30,252 posts)Question is, do you capitulate to your baser instincts, or do you rise above and learn to love all of humankind?
Many of these fuckers simply chickened out.

(11,744 posts)My sentiments exactly! I grew up exposed to racism and bigotry. I grew up in a pretty diverse area and we lived around Black people, White people and various Asian people (Chinese & Korean) as well as Filipinos. There were tensions among the groups and things were said and done that were not good. I carry that with me. I use it daily to reaffirm my commitment to treat all people with respect and to remember why it is important. I never say, "I'm not racist..." because while I do my best never to discriminate and to actively fight against stereotyping, I know that they were part of my upbringing and are there inside me.
Whenever someone says, "I don't have a racist bone..." or "I'm the least prejudiced person..." I know it is bullshit. The people who are least likely to act in racist ways are the people who are honest with themselves about their tendencies and who actively work against them.
