Look at the bulk of the 1800's if you want to see extreme statements from Congress people. And noone back then was resigning for saying something contreversial.

Our most progressive congress people say contreversial things about their colleagues all the time. If the barometer for whether you should resign is if you say contreversial things, we'll lose them all.
