"The reality, however, is far different: Among House Democrats, a majority do not currently support even opening a formal impeachment inquiry, let alone an actual vote to impeach President Trump, House members and staff say."

I find the arguments calling for impeachment by some here quite interesting, and have to wonder how many of those who seem the most "angry" that it isn't occurring have even bothered to write or call their representative, because that is the way it is done.
Some folks here seem to want to use Pelosi as a scape goat for this, but I would suggest that the way it is done is by contacting one's representative expressing that.
If the majority of representatives right now wanted impeachment, the process would start.
The fact that some seem to be unaware is that we don't have a majority right now to start impeachment.
That may change after the Mueller Testimony, but one thing that should be kept in mind is just because there is a lot of talk among certain groups within the Democratic party favoring impeachment, doesn't mean that the votes are there, which is why those who favor impeachment should contact their representatives

(297,693 posts)calls for Impeachment around here this is important news.
They can't start an inquiry without the votes. And, they don't have them yet. That doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

My suspicions is that among some it is a convenient vehicle to criticize and jump all over the speaker
It was not unlike the same thing that happened during the ACA discussions where some were "outraged" that a public option or "MFA" wasn't offered, ignoring the fact that the votes were NOT there.
Cha
(297,693 posts)was awful. That's a perfect analogy. I've seen so many dissing Nancy Pelosi.. when she doesn't have the votes.
And, here we are in 2019 with the ACA still holding on as a solid foundation to build on.. And many brilliant Dems trying to save it..

(14,249 posts)were also the most fervent members of the Pelosi must go because shes scaring moderate voters in the swing states/Pelosi needs to go because we need new, younger blood crowd?
Much of this has nothing to do with actually wanting impeachment and more to do with the scheme to weaken or get rid of Pelosi. And how better to try to do that than to blame and smear her, pretend she is the reason the House hasnt yet impeached Trump AND, as an added bonus, enlist the help of Democrats who dont realize theyre being ratfucked?
Pelosis too smart and experienced to fall for the game theyre trying to run on her. The question is whether Democrats will figure out theyre being played - just like in 2016 - and refuse to fall into that same trap again?

Frankly, your comment that you suspect some use impeachment as a cover for their basic dislike of Pelosi is obnoxious and arrogant.

Oh, and implying that not supporting Pelosi is really about misogyny is more baloney and even more galling. Its frankly out of line.

Look, I defended Pelosi for Speaker after the election here. But shes wrong about this and I am going to continue to call her office as well.

(38,018 posts)I'd call or email but every time I do that he puts me on a damned email/snail mail list. Also, he's a republican. But I'll do it.
BONUS THOUGHT: In my perfect world, people would flood congressional offices (with letters demanding impeachment) like it was the courtroom scene in Miracle on 34th Street. That would be cool.

I have emailed and called the Speaker's office around 50 times. I sent 2 rounds of postcards to all House committee chairs via Steyer's organization. I have nothing but Republican reps.

By the time Nixon resigned, there were people saying they wished he'd be impeached just to end the Watergate hearings on tv.

(94,739 posts)If what you mean is, "on Broadcast channels", I think you'll be disappointed. In the 1970s, There were only three network, and people didn't have a lot of other choices. The audience for new Impeachment hearings won't be anything close to the one for Nixon.

(4,558 posts)Lizzie Fletcher currently does not support impeachment.
She didn't support Representative Tlaib's resolution.
She has not been part of any of the impeachment legislation.
My district is blue for the first time in my adult life.
I understand if she supports impeachment without there being a much stronger case.. enough of one to have a plausible chance of it going through in the Senate, He will not be removed from office, and next year, my district will once again be red.
If someone does primary her in my district for this purpose not only will that person lose by a huge margin, they will likely do much to damage her chances of holding onto our district.
It's a shit sandwich, but it's the best sandwich available for my district.
In the House, she has voted overwhelmingly with our House leader and party. I have NO doubt in my mind.. not for a second.. that if she loses 2020, that vote is gone, and we're going to be one seat closer to a Republican majority reclamation.
