It's a well-documented love-hate relationship. Trump holds the "evangelicals" in contempt, but he needs their votes, so he throws them the occasional bone and fake-talks his support, and they ultimately get what they want, so it's an "unholy" win-win.

They're not gonna rock the boat. Even if they give lip service to the humanitarian aspects of this, they're not gonna rock the boat. Period. Yes, they played an unfortunate role in putting him in office. But they're getting a return on their investment, and they're not going to jeopardize future "gains."

No, I am not being "critical" of Speaker Pelosi. But all evidence points to the need for a different strategy. On one hand, this would expose their hypocrisy. Beyond that, it's not going to change the situation. This is crack cocaine to the "base," and every move Trump is making is in the name of locking in their 2020 votes.

I've posted this several times on DU, but back in the 70s, a reporter asked Hugh Hefner if he understood that the young women who surrounded him were primarily after his money, and without skipping a beat, he replied "Who CARES?"

Same with the evangelicals. Of course they know who and what Trump is, as well as how he sees them, but they're getting what they want.

Back in the day, the priests were the ones who copied the books, and most importantly the Bible. Normal private citizens couldn't afford books or bibles. Control the book, control the message, control the people.

That's why the Church fought the printing press and wanted to control them. Gutenberg triggered the Reformation and the Enlightenment as much as anyone.
