Even amongst criminals, black and brown men do not have defenders/protectors. Is R Kelly going to get that sweetheart deal for the rapes he allegedly committed?

(149,627 posts)It was so out of character (or so it seemed) for him to engage in such assaults.
Jeff Epstein is another story.

Race may be a factor, but it is not the only factor.
People tend not to want to believe horrible things about famous people they admired, like Cosby and OJ. AT first a lot of people refused to believe the truth about Cosby until many women came forward and he was actually sent to prison.
I think most people who have read up on Epstein are horrified and believed anyone who engaged in raping or trafficking children with him should go to prison --whether that includes people they admired or not. One writer asked on Facebook if people who voted for Trump or Clinton would support them going to prison if the evidence proved they were engaged in this with Epstein. Every poster said they would, including people in both parties.
But powerful people who are strangely silent on this may well be being blackmailed, or just afraid of retaliation by the GOP or Trump right now. Let's hope the evidence comes out soon and is irrefutable against Trump.

(19,986 posts)I searched a minute online for his party affiliation but didn't find anything. If he and Acosta were both registered Republicans that could potentially be another factor in the sweetheart deal.

(90,704 posts)Seriously -- lest we forget. He had a place in our livingrooms as "America's Dad," no matter your color. He was beloved. As with Michael Jackson, no one wanted to believe the accusations.
If you want to make a statement about America's injustice system, do so, but remember it is first and foremost the unknown who are harmed (imprisoned, or shot down in the streets by cops), secondly it is the famous who have cultivated a thuggish persona, and only remotely is it people like Cosby, Jackson, and OJ who get caught and brought to some semblance of justice after years of crime.

By and large they tend to just ignore what he did now.
