Pretty sure that's their proper name.

On edit, found a picture:

That picture seems like something that came straight from 4chan or a similar cesspool. I've seen Jimmies, sprinkles, and some other name that is eluding me right now.

When make up a word by attaching "tard" as the last syllable (or use such a word) you are importing the derrogatory word "retard." It's like a little kid saying fuc, and insisting it is a different word. That kind of bigotry has no place on DU.

So, nothing to "pass" here. I understand why the right attaches "tard" to "Libtard." So does the OP, who was trying to take the bigotry away from them by attaching "tardy" to it instead. But, something tells me that you are going what you want to believe, regardless, so I won't waste my time on this any more. Good day.

Against people with mental disabilities by pretending it means something different when used to insult liberals. The derrogatory last syllable is still hurtful to people with mental disabilities - and those who love them.

You accused the OP of trying to "justify it", however. He was not doing that. He was trying to change the meaning of the hateful intent. His intentions were good, albeit misguided, but they were in no way any sort of justification.

Starting a conversation to declare a new meaning seems too much like a person who is not a member of the the group being used as a bludgeon (people with mental disabilities) trying to reclaim the term. That is what I was reacting to.

That is enough to give anyone a disability.

My father-in-law had a leg blown off in World War II, I know what a real disability is. No need to play the PC card to excess.

The proper use of "retard", which is incorporated into the word, is to set back the timing of an ignition, as opposed to advancing it. Therefore the terms should be Libvance and Conservatard, although the latter is arguably an oxymoron.

because anything that follows is likely to be complete partisan non-thinking nonsense.

I generally do the same if it goes the other way too. Stuff like repuke, trumptard, etc... It cheapens the argument and rarely do well formed arguments follow any such childish language.

I've been trying to limit myself from saying stuff like Trump cultists or Trumpets because I don't think it helps my case when I trying to make a point.

They are using it and offensive language from them is not new

I was talking with someone and we realized that our teens have not use that word while kids like when we were growing up and ignorant
We thought maybe it resulted in bringing shame on them if mentioned to a person who became mad or corrected them or mentioned they had a connection to someone with disability
Also possibly punishment in school or a fighting word in the yard

So as we progress forward ,it needs to stay offensive, let’s not adopt it
because there’s nothing wrong with being intellectually disabled which is the inference
IMO
