(26,268 posts)She is an outlier, for the Catholics in my family. Most are hard core right wingers. She has always leaned to the Liberal side of things.
At Easter, she and her youngest daughter, who is very pro choice, had a very frank discussion about their differing views on abortion. Although they are on different sides of the issue, they respect each other's opinion. I can tell you that I would have been disowned, by my mother, for ever voicing a pro choice view.

(1,480 posts)But in 2016, the majority of (white) Evangelicals and (white) Catholics voted for Trump. Especially the former, a group that is extremely active politically and is being courted flagrantly by the GOP.

(8,020 posts)dignity. Religious nut jobs force people dieing from cancer, other things to suffer, I have seen this up close and personal. This is just one of many ways religion has ruined this country.
