"There wasn't a woman out there, Republican or Democrat, who didn't see her as warm and appealing"

Meghan McCain, just now, on Thomas Roberts' show.

Said Ann Romney "absolutely hit it out of the park," that "the only negative is that Mitt will have to follow her speech and it will be a hard act to follow," and that "There wasn't a woman out there, Republican or Democrat, who didn't see her as warm and appealing, and as our next First Lady."

She sees Queen Ann as nothing but sympathetic because they're from the same clueless class.

What I saw were a lot of women with crossed arms, never a good sign when you're trying to woo them, uncrossing those arms to give golf claps on command.

Oh, there were a couple of enthusiastic women, one a brittle blonde in batwing glasses and another one a Bristle Palin look alike with a missing bicuspid and who was jumping like a cheerleader, but by and large, it was golf claps and frowns.

Having it followed by Chrisco Christie's "look at MEEE" speech didn't help the mood much and Queen Ann was giving golf claps of her own.

This is reserved compared to other conventions. There's no more happy hatred like there was at other conventions. Egos have been badly bruised by all the procedural wrangling that ensured Romney would have a smooth path to the official nomination and I'm not sure what it will take to heal the rifts or if that is even possible.

I watch these things with the sound off because I learn more that way. There was nothing to learn about Mitt. He was as stiff as a department store window mannequin.

Ann could be the second coming of the blessed Virgin Mary.

Doesn't change the fact that it's Mitt with his utter lack of charm and personality and full on embrace of a restrictive social and economic agenda that is running for POTUS.

For all her claptrap about being a different breed of Republican Meghan still supports a candidate who doesn't even pay lip service to the issues she supposedly considers important.

She looked great. Like a modern day JUNE CLEAVER. without the stock pearls of course. Red is her color. I do wished she would do something with that hair. I mean a person with access to all that money can cut it to accentuate her face. Also noted no jewelry, very low keyed.

As I had said, I heard her speech on the radio, so without seeing her, I heard inflections in her voice that sounded odd to the ear. I also heard nervous laughter, it was irritating. Although I can sympathize with the pressure that was placed on her shoulders, to make Romney human.

Watching it, wasn't any better. None of those speaking looked comfortable to be there. I found her story false, the son of a Governor, and CEO of American motors would not be eating tuna and pasta....What normal people call tuna noodle casserole...jes sayin.

She did an okay job, but I felt like I was in the church women's night meeting. I don't believe this impacted all women. Sure she touched on the working woman once, but it seemed more geared to women challenges and their job to raise the children and support thy husband.
I didn't feel more fuzzy or learn anything new about Mitt except he makes her laugh and they met at a dance. Unfortunately, Ann Romney can't seem to talk without wagging her finger or pointing downward towards you which makes me feel she is too condescending.
Personally, I think she had the ear of specific group of women, but no means all. Feel better of Mitt? Definitely, no.

Wed Aug 29, 2012, 01:18 PM

IMO, when you hear a speaker that you find good, you usually talk about your response to it. When you know they were lousy but feel obligated to prop up the fantasy, you talk about how much everyone else enjoyed it, as if saying that can make it true. And the more extreme your statement, the more aware you are of the speaker's deficits. If you were at a Biden speech for example, you might say, "he knocked it out the park. I thought he was fantastic and the crowd seemed to love him" as opposed to the absolutist, "there wasn't a person out there who didn't love him".

So Meghan McCain is really saying that she knows that a significant chunk of women, including Republicans, didn't warm up to Ann Romney.

1. Democratic women? At the Republican convention? You must be fucking joking.
2. Of course she hit it out of the park. She was reading inoffensive platitudes off a teleprompter. The only way you fuck that up is if you're a drooling invalid.
3. Of COURSE the crowd loved it. She was talking to a crowd of old, white, angry racists and submissive Stepford wives. That's the Republican base. In fact, it's the entire Republican PARTY.

My mother is a lifelong Democrat--even voted McGovern in '72--and Ann Romney gives her the creeps. This is a woman who was so devoted to Hillary Clinton that she even hated Michelle Obama until about a year after Barack was elected (why Michelle and not Barack himself, I will never know. But she voted for Obama and plans to do so again, and is absolutely overjoyed at the fact that she also gets to cast a ballot for Elizabeth Warren).

She hates Mitt Romney--thinks he's a greasy used car salesman, and Anntoinette Romney isn't doing anything to ameliorate her hate. In fact, it almost intensifies it.
