I was worried when they missed the July 1 deadline. I'm glad somebody in the DOJ had some sense (or had it pounded into them).

After reading a piece by Joshua Matz, I thought for sure Ross would produce a memo with some other bullshit excuse for adding the citizenship question and Roberts would give it the thumbs up. This is excellent news.

18. Gerrymandering needs to be fixed in each state individually

We did it in Pennsylvania last year, against incredible odds. If it can be done here, (we've been called Gerrymander Central) then other states have a chance to do the same. The SCOTUS ruling last week only means that the US Supreme Court isn't going to proactively strike down gerrymandering efforts that have already taken place.

If a state goes ahead and removes gerrymandering through legal means, SCOTUS will honor that state's own court rulings as they did for us in PA. What happened here was the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that the 2011 maps were gerrymandered and needed to be redrawn. The Repukes tried to get it overruled, and SCOTUS refused to hear the case. It said the PA court rulings are final.

Each state must have the political will to stop and reverse the Repukes' cheating, but it can be done.
