Alvin is the first named storm in the Eastern Pacific

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical
Storm Alvin, located several hundred miles south of the southern
tip of the Baja California peninsula.

1. An area of low pressure is expected to develop in a few days several
hundred miles southwest of the southern coast of Mexico. Some slow
development of this system is possible thereafter and a tropical
depression could develop by late this weekend or early next week
while it moves westward to west-northwestward.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.
