By Connor MannionJun 26th, 2019, 12:21 pm
Republican Rep. Mark Meadows vowed to fiercely cross-examine Special Counsel Robert Mueller during his upcoming testimony, seeming to threaten an explosive hearing by saying the special counsel better come prepared.
Meadows was appearing on Laura Ingrahams Fox News program Tuesday where he made the promise and accused Mueller of being cozy with Democratic congress members.
Listen, it is not a good day for America but Bob Mueller better be prepared, Meadows said Because I can tell you, he will be cross-examined for the first time and the American people will start to see the flaws in his performance.
Meadows is the chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and sits on the House Oversight Committee. He also accused Mueller of being friendly with Democrats because he got a friendly subpoena.

(34,111 posts)of the Tea Baggers? Not Tea Party as they would like us to call them now that they know what they originally called themselves means but Tea Baggers like the bags they hung from everything thinking they were original and cute. Now it is the Freedom Caucus? Still Tea Baggers to me. It pisses them off greatly and gives a person cover when you go blank and respond by saying, "I thought that was what you called yourselves, ya know when you hung those bags off your hats and into your faces?"
I am normally a nice person, I can get down and argue but I normally do not go there with the really nasty stuff but this? Well, they deserve it and it is a way to pretend to be innocent while upsetting their day and we all know they have a real hard time dealing with someone who pretends to be innocent and calls them out.

(11,566 posts)Mueller has the facts and many years of experience on his side. No doubt, his reticence with testifying was the dread of publicly confronting hysterical Republicans. I dont blame him.

(32,084 posts)These are likely just empty threats aimed at trying to get Mueller to not show up. The guy is a complete moron, and if he pulls anything, he will make an ass of himself, just has he as done at all the other hearings. The Dems will call his bluff.

(6,362 posts)In this corner we have the decorated marine, Princeton grad with a law degree from the Univ of Virgina who served as DA at SDNY taking down crime families and the country's longest serving post-hoover FBI director responsible for a broad range post 9/11 investigations. A registered republican appointed by 4 different presidents (both R and D) to Senate confirmed positions who is so squeaky clean that even right wing smear campaign roll off without a trace.
An in this corner we have ... well ... the "gentleman" from North Carolina having served as a congressman for the 11th district...bringing with him his 6 years in the House along with an Associate's Degree from USF (formerly a BA by his own claim but downgraded after an investigation revealed he didn't graduate), owner of several ethics violations, not the least of which include harassing female office staff and all around toady for the current administration.
Yeah - one of them better come prepared.

(1,771 posts)It makes me think he needs hearing aids. And the way the republicans faces turn red when they speak, maybe have medical care nearby.
And maybe threatening Mueller is not such a good idea.

(5,995 posts)The Dems will go down the list in the report to get Mueller to confirm what he wrote. Not fiery, but necessary to inform the general public that can't be arsed to read the report.
The GOP will be posturing for campaign snippets and Mueller will hand them their asses. Don't think there are 15 working brain cells capable of logical thought in the entire "Freedumb Caucus".

(7,286 posts)I heard an interview with someone who worked closely with RM and he pointed out
-RM does not like being in the limelight. It makes him uncomfortable
-RM does not want to take part in a political spectacle
-RM is not going to expand upon what's in the report in any way. He intended for the report to speak for itself
I think the Dems may try and pull some information out of him, and the R's will try and attack his information, but in the end he will just revert to "what's in the report" Its like pleading the 5th for him
bigbrother05
(5,995 posts)The subpoena was necessary to get him into the open. He won't come looking for redemption, but doubt he'll tolerate being smeared.
GusBob
(7,286 posts)And his response has been stone cold silence. You are right he wont get angry, but I think he will avoid fireworks.
I believe he wont take the bait with the R's on the committee either, he will deflect their questions, comments, smears, attacks back to the report. In fact I think he will just ignore the pontificating attacks and address the questions only.
This guy Meadows is trying to intimidate him obviously

(22,976 posts)Teabagger Mark Meadows is the COMPLETE Trump toady, and an all-around horrible person. His list of political positions is on a par with Genghis Khan. Here are a select few:
-2018-present: Frequently conferrs with Trump about Mueller's probe.
-2017: Meadows voted against renewing the Violence Against Women Act, claiming it was based not on HIS personal feelings, but what his constituents in "God's Country" tell him to do.
-2016: Gave Trump a wish list of regulations to be repealed, and demanded cessation of federal funding to study climate change.
-2013: Opposed to the Affordable Care Act, stating that it should be replaced by private enterprise. Chief architect of the government shutdown over Obamacare.
