A mother is sought after an hours-old newborn in a plastic bag is left in the woods

Atlanta (CNN)Georgia authorities are searching for the mother of a newborn found wrapped in a plastic bag and abandoned in a wooded area in Cumming.

Residents of a nearby home were unloading their car after a trip Thursday night when they heard a noise coming from a secluded, wooded strip of land. At first, they thought they were animal sounds.

(We) grabbed our flashlights and we're driving around and we're, like, 'That doesn't sound like an animal,'" Kayla Ragatz told CNN affiliate WSB.

They went into the woods and followed the sound to a pile of leaves and sticks, and then saw the baby wrapped in a plastic bag.

"You don't anticipate hearing a baby in the woods," Sheriff Ron H. Freeman told reporters Friday. "Thank God they went out and investigated."

Video at the link. I don't get choked up too often with today's news, but this did it to me. I hope they find the person who did this, and thank GOD they were able to find her while still alive.

PS - this is just being reported today on CNN, it actually happened about three weeks ago.

...and walked away, our homeland nazis would have taken the little tyke in no questions asked. I want to vomit for even thinking that.

May this little baby -- and all children -- be safe.

4. I really think this is likely someone else than the mother that did this.

A case of incest maybe where they want the baby to go away.

but my main peeve is that if god were involved, why was this kid dumped and left to die to begin with. So, what, god gets all these people in these horrific situations and then we’re suppposed to pray to him to let the people or animals survive. What kind of sadistic crap is that?

no questions asked and no penalty or punishment. Baby girl could have been left in good hands, rather than left to the ravages of the woods. Amazingly stupid and cruel.
