The Republican congressman has every reason to be concerned.
Former special counsel Robert Mueller is set to testify before two House committees on July 17, and at least one top Trump defender is scared.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said on Fox News on Tuesday night that he's scared Mueller's public testimony will lead to Trump's impeachment.
"I hope we are not in store for 'impeachment-by-surprise,' as this seems to feed into the elements of the Democratic Party that are more focused on President Trump and sort of relitigating the Mueller report than in dealing with the humanitarian crisis at the border or dealing with many of the other challenges that I think a lot of swing-district Democrats would like to be working on at this time," Gaetz said, after two House Democratic committee chairs announced Mueller's testimony.
First, Gaetz has reason to be worried.

(16,786 posts)AS Mueller has faced down far worse an enemy than the shrinking violet that is Matt Gaetz.
Mueller will have Gaetz for breakfast and spit him out with his intelligence and experience. All the Republicans will be making fools of themselves, save for Amash.

(10,829 posts)it's been Gaetz and other Trumpsters who have called for Mueller's appearance, taunted and finger-pointed that the Dems should just call Mueller to testify.
Can't have it both ways.
I suspect these comments are for Fox consumers exclusively. Because if the Mueller Report 'exonerated' Donald Trump then Mueller's testimony should be a nothingburger. Or perhaps Gaetz is worried that Mueller unlike other Trump enablers won't be lying to Congress or taking the 5th.
These people are shameless!

(1,990 posts)Which are:
1) Did you intend on the report going to Congress for impeachment hearings since you were bound by the OLC opinion that you couldn't indict a sitting President?
2) If Trump was not sitting President, would you have asked for an indictment?
This is what the TrumpCult is trying to avoid. How the hell can he be allowed to continue to be POTUS if Mueller answers "yes" to both?
